And the Nid with CDR boots, too.

I actually think the surge in popularity for swifties has to do with the massive influx of slows you see in the games now. Largely attributable to Frost Queen's and iceborn gauntlet (curse you blue ezreal...)

agreed. also besides them giving "resistance" against slows, they are really cheap and really fast. they feel unbalanced. or the other boots feel like crap.

It's really a bit self-perpetuating. Slows are more prevalent, so people take the boots that reduce slows. These also happen to be the highest increase of movespeed during combat. When your enemies have more combat mobility, you feel like you need it as well. So you, in turn, buy swifties in order to be on an even playing field.

I'm not actually sure the higher movespeed would be enough by itself to merit getting the boots. It's really the slow reduction in an environment where it feels like everything has a slow available that makes them so strong. Take away the prevalence of slows (or make them less effective to begin with), and maybe other boots start coming back.

Boom. Diversity.

I think it's a good start at least. At some point, I think Swiftness and Mobility should be better defined. Buffing Swift's Slow Resist and removing Mobi's conditional movespeed would better differentiate "buy this to move faster, or buy this to mitiagate slows." instead of Swiftness being superior in both situations.

First 2 sure, 3rd hell no, we have enough flat armor pen in the game between item 3156 item 3142 and the new Assassin item, armor pen boots break assassins.

It's true, but there almost have to be more armor pen items than equivalent magic pen items due to the greater defensive itemization against AD. I'm just always at a loss on what boots to build on AD casters-- it almost always comes down to a defensive choice, which isn't always optimal. CDR boots are convenient at times, but Casters easily acquire CDR from other items.

Summoner spell CDR is nothing to write off and for ad casters unless you're going crit with ER, you're going item 3142 item 3071 and item 3812 or item 3158 usually seems fine to me. Otherwise pick one from item 3117 item 3009item 3047 item 3111.

Except, as an assassin, you should not be targeting anybody who would be building significant armor items.

AD assassins already have better pen options. Realistically, Liandry's is not good on a large majority of champs. Let's not forget that AD assassins include auto attacks in their damage.

Theory and application are two very different things. Assassins will have to fight tanks in game. That means dealing with armor items. Mages have better pen options than Sorc's, and even worse, a CDR disparity, yet people buy them all the time. Why? Penetration is important. If you put in armor pen boots, people will build them.

And your point about Liandries is really only a criticism of the lack of build options for Haunting Guise. It's a good item.

Awhile ago those boots used to pretty much be limited to singed. Are they going to get nerfed back to that state Q.Q?

Well, I use Swifties a lot since beginning of S5, and I was real happy with the price reduction in S6. Now that pros (finally) use them, I'm a bit sad for the incoming nerf.

And yes, there already a nerf for them on the PBE, and for Mobi and Lucidity too. Basically, all "cheap" boots get a 100g price increase.

notice how 7 of the heroes in this game have slows. not that out there for people to be buying a lot of the anti-slow boot when the game is filled with a thousand slows.

maybe a small nerf is in order but nothing too drastic considering its pickrate is mostly due to things like trundle and FQC being meta

In a game about mobility, all boots matter.

Shadow Gilgamesh2 votes

I think It's less swiftness being too good and more than for no reason they decided to nerf CDR boots and the tenacity on mercs. That and because we live in league of frost queens where you just get slapped with a 2-4 second slow just for being within a mile of the item when it activates.

They're nerfing the low tier boots cost on PBE by increase of 100g.
