How are Ekko and Tahm "fuck yous" to melees? Especially when they're also melee themselves?

Tahm isn't that horrible to melees, I mean, yes being at melee range may cause him to eat you, but then he doesn't get to participate in the fight since he can't auto or cast most of his spells, all he can do is tank while you soak since his kit is mostly disabled while he has you locked down.
