Riot, about this party bonus for IP...

Why are you even taking it down after the two weeks is up? Just leave it.

The only reason to change this would be to make it so that players who party up can earn even more IP even more consistently. Honestly, the IP grind is ridiculous for players who are a) new to the game, or b) who work for a living and can't sit and grind for hours on end. It makes an enormous amount of the game's content inaccessible to players for a ridiculous length of time.

League is getting older, and as the game matures, so do the players. Most of the level 30s who spend their time playing normals even casually actually have a really strong grasp on the game (lane versatility, understanding of champion builds, map awareness, etc.)... It must be all that #LCS they're watching! People are learning your game more quickly than ever, and the community and resources that exist to guide them are expansive and user-friendly, but the rate at which they have access to game content has not grown with them. (Something to reflect on... your 124th champion is coming out. 124 champs in the game)

It's time to let this one go, Rito. Let the players have some more IP. They deserve access to your amazing content, whether it's the interesting and diverse pool of champs or the ability to customize their runes.

tl; dr - RITO MOAR IP PLZ

P.S. This is not an angry post.

I think it isn't fair because I don't have friends.

Migrañaboy3/2/2015, 11:41:19 PM20 votes

They leave it for two weeks in order to study if IP reward is viable.

In what sense?

Does it hurt their IP/RP model? Does it promote moar gaming or game attachment for old and new players? Are the revenues more impactful than the inflation? Does this model kill the feeling of "time invested farming IP into my account model keeps me sticked to lol"? Shall we make this something permanent, occasional or never try it anymore?

Regardless of your opinion OP, Rito is still a business.

Edit: And yes, I'd like this to be something permanent, but as a businessman I'd take a careful approach.

I'd imagine they make a lot of money from champion RP purchases and IP boost purchases, increasing IP gains would lower their profit.

I agree with this though. champions cost so much. Ive gotten most of the champions in the 450 area that I was interested in and Ive expanded a bit into the 1350 area but god dam dude... I really feel as though I dont get rewarded for playing this game at all. I played a game that lasted 57 minutes or so. 57 minutes.... you think that game was over and done with? hell no. it was a great game cause both teams had constant back and forth. epic battles, objectives taken, dragons slain it was like some lord of the rings epic battle scene every 5 minutes. and yknow what? we had one last team fight. in their nexus. 1 tower done the other almost gone, nexus almost exposed VICTORY WAS WITHIN REACH bam, one teamfight we lost cuz we were weak and were praying for game. 85 ip yea... i just spent an hour playing a game with evenly matched teams giving it their all 85 ip now I understand we lost, BUT DAMN grinding for ip is...If I had the real money for champs. Id probably get a few. but right now I got like 14. some of em I dont even like. some of em fell out of play for me cause I have someone better than them. and im gettin kinda bored of playing the same 4-6 champs over and over again.

I gotta list of champs I want, but IP so scarce and so grindy.... I actually did the math with me working 12 hours a day and getting only...maybe 4 games in a night. its gonna take me 6 weeks to get the ip for Varus. and he aint even that good...hes fun for me, but...yea

Rito, dont be stingy give us more ip for the love of god.

I agree completely. Back when I started playing (beginning of Season 2, end of Season 1), none of this was a problem. Every game got you over 100 IP, there was no such thing as a 6300 (or god help us a 7800 in the first week) Champion, and there were a lot less of them. Riot has nerfed IP earnings at least three times in my memory. And if this system (according to new information that Riot completely didn't present properly) is just going to be this slightly underwhelming, small earning of extra IP after each game you play with friends with the rare chance of getting a big IP jackpot...then just leave it in. Leave this system in. I mean my god, people I know that start playing League of Legends now I legitimately feel sorry for, because I know that they're going to have to almost no-life this game if they ever want the chance of becoming as knowledgeable and adept at it as someone like me is, or other players who've been around consistently since the first two seasons. And even then, they still won't have most of the champions and god help them on buying runes.

I mean those are just my two cents, but I can honestly say I haven't accepted IP earnings as fair for the past couple years. Don't get me wrong, no matter how mad I might get about some things that Riot does (I hope you feel the fire of 1000 suns for taking the lore out), I will always go on record saying that they're probably the best, most interactive and thoughtful video game company in the world (that I know of). But that doesn't mean they're perfect or that they get a free pass at criticism. The closest I've ever gotten to calling Riot money-hungry is when I start talking about IP nerfs and income with friends. It is unacceptable and the most counter-intuitive and obstructive obstacle for a new player trying to get into the game. Even I'm still missing 16 champions from my pool, so this whole IP jackpot thing was my opportunity to get most of them. But now that I know it's not actually a multiplicative reward (that I would understand wanting to take away after two weeks because I was totally gonna farm that) but just a small additive one that MAY get you a jackpot, just leave it in Riot. Help us out, help your players out. Also, there would have been nothing wrong with farming 16x IP bonuses with four other friends for two weeks. :P

If you work for a living, surely $5 for a champ won't hurt, it's less than an hour working even at minimum wage.

If one is not working/paying for the game, Riot expect them to grind more and provide value for other players. I think it's pretty fair, price just needs some tweaking.

Just give that IP gain increase for all players, make it permanent and release Team Builder Ranked.

I am not sure this is as much about addressing the need for more IP as it is trying to convince players to rope their friends in and keep them playing. Friends are a critical component in keeping people playing this game. Let's be honest, how many people would have uninstalled this game by now if they didn't have friends to play with? I know I sure would have.

There are definitely some business interests behind this move. Which is likely why they are running this as a trial. They want to see if giving people more IP to play with friends increases the number of active players. Whether more IP cannibalizes RP sales. Etc.

It's only up for that amount of time to get the feedback they need on it so they can improve it before it's a permanent part of the game. Common Sense please.

Bro, they said they will take it down to check the results! If the results are what they are expecting then they will pursue that direction to move forward if results are not favourable then they will come up with other solutions! The thing they focus here is "if we play with friends we wont rage a lot and yell even at bad games" so they are trying to promote a toxic free environment for everyone and a pleasant game every game! I'm Just guessing obviously coz I don't work at riot... wish I did :p

Kynami3/3/2015, 3:46:07 AM3 votes

Should be a minimum threshold value for when it activates though. Getting all of 4 bonus IP for a 4-man pre-made in a 40+ minute long match is kinda... lame.

As a relatively new player (started late Nov/early Dec of 2014... beginning of preseason) I can definitely see why this could be a concern. However, I think players need to explore their options a bit more. As for buying RP to get champs... to ME the best value comes from buying the 6300 champs at half price when each new on-sale rotation comes out. 5 matches, including the first win of the day bonus, is more than enough to buy you a 450 champ and then some. If ranked is a concern, you can easily hit your 16 champ minimum by buying all of the 450 champs and a few select ones that you wish to play more frequently... and yes, this can be accomplished by level 30. (bot games, while they hurt your skill development once you have the general idea of things, is a great way to get fast, easy IP too) The real issue are runes, but even those aren't a big deal. Buy the universal runes that work for all champs. All of these are 205 IP. (AD marks, AR seals, MR flat/scaling glyphs) With that set, you should find life in LoL a little easier. The thing to keep in mind is this is suppose to be a game you play for the long haul, if indeed it's the kind of game that meshes with your gaming style. ( Been looking for a competitive pvp game for a long time... wish I hadn't blown LoL off 3-4 years ago when my son mentioned it.) Look at the wait time as a way to improve your skill with the current set of champions you own, because we all know it takes time and effort to become better players. (Honestly... I pretty much only play Darius... I can't seem to stop)

With all that being said, I really like the idea of this being a permanent thing. Randomizing the bonus seems to be a fair way to keeping it under control. The grinders will most likely see the biggest impact from something like this but everyone benefits. (the no friends argument has to be trolling... lol, it's so easy to build up a huge friends list if that's something you're looking to do)

I read a complaint in this thread about newbies getting to ranked sooner being a bad thing... I feel like addressing that comment, troll or not. If the more experienced players continue to put out guides for everything under the sun, it'll make the learning curve low as hell. There are already some good guides about the basics. As a new player, I think it would be wise of Riot to have a message for players going into ranked for the first time suggesting they check out ranked game guides. Adding hyperlinks to these LoL guides would also be a smart move. (the guide I read helped me understand draft selection, the best way to go about it, (pick order means dick guys, just sayin!) what you should have before doing ranked so you aren't at a disadvantage and some strategy on counter picking, etc etc) I wish I had received a message like this when I first tried ranked... I don't think I'd be sitting at bronze 2 right now if I hadn't. My skill has improved so much since I started reading guides and learning more about early/mid/late game strategies it's not even funny.

TL;DR version: I'm new. There are several ways to earn/spend IP to maximize what you earn as well as how useful your spending is, which can help you avoid wasteful spending. Taking this into consideration, I think making this a permanent thing once it's tweaked properly would be 100% BA for the player base, especially for us grinders.

Important point to note: I read a complaint in this thread about newbies getting to ranked sooner being a bad thing... I feel like addressing that comment, troll or not. I figured this would be permanent to encourage new players to play with friends
