Does anyone else prefer to be farther down in picks when playing solo queue?

It's starting to frustrate me more than excite me when I have first pick in a solo queue lobby. I'm comfortable with banning out champs, I just hate the feeling of picking a champion blind. It doesn't even really matter what role I play, that knowledge matters so much. You also get to avoid all the fighting over roles if you're just going to fill anyways.

Anyway, last pick OP, first pick can eat it. Thoughts?

I always like getting 3-5th pick. I never like being first pick, its nice being able to ban what I want but Id much rather counter pick or build a decent comp than ban what I want. 2nd pick on blue team is perfectly fine though, because the red team will normally lock in adc/mid/top as the first 2 picks so you can make a decent counter to those.

I find that if I'm first pick, it's quite often that my team composition will be terrible because I can't fill it out to be balanced, and others love to ignore compositions and pick things that don't fit with my pick.

I like to play assassin junglers, and always end up with things like Teemo top and no tank or initiator if I pick it first. At least when I'm a later pick, I can choose a different jungler if my main doesn't fit the team composition.

I have to agree with you, working with your team and trying to get them their roles makes for a far more enjoyable game usually. Plus I personally prefer having a rough impression of the enemy team as my preferred champions aren't quite so extremely versatile, so I don't want to be at a disadvantage.

I prefer last pick in all cases. I main support (Big fucking surprise, Bronze II here), so I REALLY don't care where I get placed as long as it isn't ADC, cause I can't CS worth a fuck.

disregardable5/3/2015, 12:04:39 AM5 votes

You should play more freelo champions that are good in any situation.

Salidfingers5/3/2015, 12:43:18 AM2 votes

I prefer being last pick.

Nothing more satisfying as a guarantee win in lane.

if you dont like first picking, you should try to ask your team if you can grab any champion for them. Although, i can see people not having a lot of good champions available for trades lol.

of course, more time to fap...

Rikari5/3/2015, 4:43:49 PM1 votes

I want my role but i dont want a tryhard counter,or to pick something they do good against.

Pikmints5/3/2015, 5:06:43 PM1 votes

I like being a later pick. Partially because my gaps between playing ranked are so large that I never know who to ban that patch, secondly because despite being a support main I know enough about enemy marksmen and supports to know which supports fare better in matchups so I can more or less counter the enemy bot lane.

Also, I hate people that don't communicate, so when I throw out that I can play 3 roles and only 1 other person on my team call roles, being later allows the people that don't talk to pick their most comfortable roles since they're being unnecessarily quiet.

TeemoLikeCookies5/3/2015, 5:32:35 PM1 votes

I just hate the feeling of picking a champion blind.

LeeSin: Dude same

Sirin Gioro5/3/2015, 5:38:18 PM1 votes

As an Ezreal main, I HATE being first pick. First picking Ezreal is like the most idiotic things you can do, because they'll probably pick Draven, Graves, Vayne to counter you.

AFK Push5/3/2015, 5:50:28 PM1 votes

Seeing as first pick is almost always top or mid, they usually pick the dumbest shit as first picks. I'll see stuff like first pick Darius or Kassadin then get counterpicked by the likes of Xerath mid or a ranged top against the darius like Jayce. I'm not saying that someone is proficient in that champ shouldn't play them, because the other person might be counterpicking for the sake of counterpicking which usually results in them losing cause they don't know how to use those said counters. However, I feel like these first picks are just instalocking, because they want their solo lane so bad.

General Spacey5/3/2015, 6:14:02 PM1 votes

I like first pick if i feel like jungling because bans take care of everything. Ban Sejuani andVi and then pickLeeSin and ur all good. There are very few summoners at the lower elos who can counter a mediocre lee sin.

A Tall Joke5/3/2015, 6:26:57 PM1 votes

As a mid main, I do appreciate lower picks. Nothing feels nicer than picking Ori into a Zed match up and watching him try to kill me :P Counterpicks are real and if you're comfortable playing enough champs in your role, you'll do really well.

Sammystorm5/3/2015, 6:49:05 PM1 votes

I just don't like banning things. Other wise I really could cae less where I am.

Ryvaku5/3/2015, 8:00:28 PM1 votes

I like last pick because I get the role nobody wants!

Ahurath5/3/2015, 8:19:17 PM1 votes

I play like ADCs 90% of my games and if i'm firstpick I just pick something I know I can play in almost every situation and that has an escape. Like Lucian, graves or sivir.

Iv'e plindpicked Jinx and the enemy team picks something like: Cho'gath, Vi, Nautilus, Kalista, Riven. Atleast with ADC I feel that your lane opponent doesn't matter that much anyways since there's always a way to win lane even tho you have a bad matchup. But it's more important to have something that works well outside of lane.

kunkudunk5/3/2015, 10:39:30 PM1 votes

Agreed, I hate being first pick. So little information to be had as you try to pick your champ.

Pæan5/4/2015, 1:17:44 AM1 votes

I main jung/support so if i could get last pick or close to last pick everygame i would be very happy. Let's me know if i need to be a tank, a carry, or ultility/mage.

Occams Raiser5/4/2015, 2:04:32 AM1 votes

No need to preface bronze. 47 percent of the leagues are within +- 500 MMR of each other. It seems like the boards are mostly for silver and below to post. and gold and higher to respond.

WarlockLaw5/4/2015, 2:18:07 AM1 votes

I especially hate second pick on purple side as I don't even get to ban out what i dont want to see yet I still have to pick blind more often than not

Dunkrius2g5/4/2015, 4:32:03 AM1 votes

3rd pick is pretty golden. if u r 3rd u should atleast know who you will lane against. You can set up counters and what not. worst is 1st cuz you will get hard countered e.g. Darius 1st pick and you have to fight Kennen or Kayle andthey are 3rd pick

LadyRenly5/4/2015, 4:46:23 AM1 votes

I don't mind being last pick or so, provided my role of choice doesn't get taken. Allows me to pick the right champ for the comp

pro crastinat0r5/4/2015, 6:06:40 AM1 votes

Yeah 3 or lower is best in my opinion, mostly because I feel like I am the only person who cares about team comp in lowly silver: if our team is squishy, lacks cc, lacks magic damage, lacks damage period, etc, I want to be able to pick a champ that fill the holes.

Onimus Terlain5/4/2015, 11:16:07 AM1 votes

I prefer picking near the bottom. Not only does it allow me to counterpick, but my role of choice is never really in demand anyway (jungle).

In addition, having people ahead of me at least gives me the illusion that there are people in the game better than me.

It's pretty helpless seeing me at #1 and knowing that all 4 people on my team are worse than me. And I'm not great, so that is a harbinger for our success (or lack thereof) in the game to come.

Randomonium5/4/2015, 11:25:01 AM1 votes

I used to prefer being near the bottom with picks but lately people have been terribly uncooperative. Instead of discussing what roles people are good with people just insta-lock roles with no communication. I'm fine with that if you are going to carry hard but when you insta-lock all the roles I excel at and leave me with my worst role and then proceed to go 0-6-2 and rage at me for not carrying hard enough it gets old really fast.

Nucleophilic atk5/3/2015, 1:55:29 AM1 votes

Well, last pick pretty much ensures that you are going to support a terrible adc lol...so I don't like it.

Drackolus5/3/2015, 1:54:53 PM1 votes

Imma pick my girl Soraka every time. Please, counterpick me. Make my day.

warpenguin5555/3/2015, 2:55:45 PM1 votes

i love later picks too, cant stand going 1st because they are almost always going to counter you

OperationDEEZ15/3/2015, 3:46:04 PM1 votes

If I get first I usually ask 4th or last pick to trade with me, if I'm going something like mid or top But of course, I play Viktor mid, so ofc nobody's going to be able to trade with me >:(

Karen Kujo5/3/2015, 4:04:32 PM1 votes

I prefer to be 4th or last pick.

But it's also quite good to be first pick so freelo Jinx gets banned

Handin Out Naps5/3/2015, 4:09:25 PM1 votes

Well for me it changed as I climbed the ladder. Back in Bronze/Silver/Low Gold I really enjoyed first pick because I could always just lock in my main (zed, plz no h8)and pretty much dominate most lane matchups. But now that I'm in an area where people are equal to me (plat) I really prefer the last picks so I get a chance to counter pick instead of simply locking in one champ every game.
