When will riot realize that having short games IS NOT FUN

Stomp or get stomped , everybody open and ff 15 bc they know comebacks in this meta are impossible . Results ? Shit unsatisfying gameplay when u win , and a frustrating lose of time when u lose . So yeah make Barons and Dragons harder to do , Buff turrets tankiness , Balance death timer mid game so 1 random catch doesn't give u a free baron and 3 turrets . I want games that last in average 35-40 min , and stop taking bronzes and silvers datas in considerations , bc in those elos people just dont know how to end and its full throws / counters throws ; so yeah ur games might last a bit longer at lower elos , but higher than that its feels like playing Arams . Also i watched some LCK recently and it was quite funny when SKT killed Barons in three seconds in front of 4 KT players , Their Shen was splitting bot and probably thought " well by the time i tp the baron will be dead anyways " . I mean there could have been some hype at that fight if baron wasn't so weak , but w/e it was just boring .

Also it kills me that u accept this a direction to take ( to make games shorter ) when u allowed a surrender vote at 15 . Stop trading quality for quantity please .

Also remove Global gold reward on kill , giving a global lead on something so individual is stupid , just split this global gold lose between all objectives . So if u have some kills in early it doesn't snowball everywhere , and if objectives are harder to take u might comeback if the enemys do mistakes .

Riot wants to make the game more casual . If timmy just has 20 min before dinner is ready , he might have the time to play a ff 15 clown fiesta . I dont mind if this is the case for others games modes , Keeping the main game mode in this state is obviously a bad choice . Timmy can be satisfied with 3 others mode (and one that constantly changes so he doesn't get bored ) but if he is not happy with the length of a try hard game with SR ( the main mode of an competitve and intense game, as Riot says ) he can go ... him self .

Riot is just trying to make League a game that it isn't, and it's completely fucking the balance up

Karfuss33 votes

Pretty much this.

20 minute games make for good eSports. Quick games, quick plays. It's eye porn. It's immediate gratification.

Problem is, and problem arrives, when you have a bread and butter MOBA and take a sudden direction change. Balance goes out the window, and you'll never deal with the innumerable issues you've caused. If you wanted to do it right, you needed that design ethos from the beginning.

Baron is one such victim of this. A late scaling objective, in a game where all power has shifted to the early. Same with turrets.

I haven't watched a goddamn series since the LCS was forced to be shorter due to that. It's fkn boring.

AbiwonKenabi14 votes

The thing is... it isn't that fun to watch either. Like sure you get some action and flashy plays earlier, but its either a one-sided stomp or teams play really safe because first blood could mean the game depending on how good teams are at closing games. Close games that sometimes make it to late game are more fun to watch. So I feel even eSports suffers here.

I still watch because I enjoy it still, but my favorite pro games are from pre-LCS or early LCS days. They were generally closer and more exciting. Sure you had some stomps, it happens, but if the team performed that well, they earned it.

Honestly, as much as I hated HoTS when it came out, I have completely switched over to playing it. League has totally dumpstered everything that made it stand out and become some weird bastardization of DoTA and HoTS. It itsnt what I wanted, so I just stopped playing

Karfuss4 votes

Anecdotally, I've also just stopped playing solo. I just have the client open and wait for invites.. For far too many reasons I will just not play unless I know I'm going to have fun.

My personal belief is that Riot is becoming a victim of its own success, while League is too big to fail. My biggest gripe is that they now know it, and can choose to be complacent on so many issues that, to any smaller developer, would be top priority.

I mean, isn't that your opinion, that short games aren't fun?

ˉˉˉˉˉˉ13 votes

Not really.

SoryInAdvance62 votes

It is 100% an opinion, it's just a commonly shared opinion.

ˉˉˉˉˉˉ28 votes

"Your" was emphasized, implying that this person meant only his opinion, when in reality, the majority of the community hate snowbally stomp games.

SociopathFriend6 votes

And the proof for that is....? By looking at Reddit and the Boards? Which by sheer numbers are a minority of the community?

I Main Swain14 votes

how do you think studies of large groups work? if someone wants to do a statistic on where middle class mothers shop they dont go knock on the door of every middle class mother on the planet, they find a portion (that's still a decent number) with as many varieties between them aside from them being middle class mothers and ask them where they shop. while yes its entirely possible that the majority of the community actually does like short games and just isnt saying a word about it, i hear constantly from all sorts of people how much they hate that games are over by minute 15-25. in game, on boards, in person, facebook, reddit, from what i and many others have seen, combined with sheer logic and player demographic, i think its very safe to say the simple majority of the community strongly dislikes having extremely short games. i have heard so far exactly 3 reasons people dont hate it: you dont get those crazy long games anymore, you dont have to worry about not having enough time near as much, and players who like early game champs are in heaven because theres no such thing as late game.

all that aside, its just straight up extremely unhealthy for the game to be so consistently short that anything lategame based is either entirely ignored or riot reworks/buffs it to be more early or mid game friendly.

The problem is that forums attract a certain kind of people, AKA the ones who want to complain about something. People who are enjoying the game aren't normally making threads about how much they enjoy it. I'm not saying people don't think games are too short, just that you can't just go by what people cry about on forums. When games are long people cry about games being too long, when games are short people cry about them being too short. No matter what people will cry. At the end of the day Riot should do what's best for the game, and I'm not gonna pretend to know what that is. Personally I prefer a bit longer games though.

yeah no i get that completely, visiting these boards for a so much as a few minutes gives me my daily intake of salt

i wish my teams would open they always just say im toxin and spam all chat to deport me for asking if they want to open hehe xd

Sraeg201322 votes

Do they specify where to deport you?

AbiwonKenabi6 votes

Opening is dumb, especially if you can surrender at 15. If the whole team doesn't agree, then it's not fair for you to decide the fate of a whole team of people.

If everyone wants to "open" then the surrender vote will go through. If not, you don't have the right to boss your team around like that, and one person "opening" is just an afk player.

Plus, even as fast as games go, they aren't decided at less than 15, especially solo queue where anything can happen.

If we have an early game comp vs a late game comp and its https://i.gyazo.com/f5735678e688d4621796d3269337e79c.png , im gonna have to call open tho lul

but for some reason people in my elo dont get the idea of a game being lost i think :(

I don't think the problem is metas or game length, it's the match making. The games are ending so soon because of how easy it is to create a big lead against someone who is 30% lower on the ranked bracket.

Nea1047 votes

Yes, that. "Stomped or get stomped" doesn't have other good explanations. Time they fix their forced 50% ratio system, and make something actually good.

Everything really when to hell when they made bot turret weaker. Yeah damage and mobility creep were already making the game hell, but the 4 people shifting bot really turned everything into snowbally clown fiesta, that's why everyone was crying for the ff 15 and Riot gave it to them.

Möral Support7 votes

There should be more opportunities for comebacks. Once the teams have a small lead it is beyond easy to snowball.

  • Personally I enjoy watching LCS games that go over 40 minutes so that I can learn from what they're doing to prolong the game.
RainXBlade7 votes

I miss the time when games could ACTUALLY go past at least the 30 min mark. Right now, games are too snowbally and now depends on whichever team pulls off a successful 4-man bot first just because bot lane is overall easy to siege. This needs to be addressed imo.

you can look at my match history..the only matches that are generally under like 30 min. are because one person got fed and there like no we should surrender.or aram.

i also want to point out..that everyone said the matches were to long....so riot tried to make the matches shorter. and now your bitching there to short....

Can I get a source for people saying they wanted shorter games?

The closest I have ever seen is when people complained that lcs games were getting stale and boring back in the 4v0 lane meta.

And even that was just for competitive games, not solo queue.

there was a point when some people were complaining that games take too long and for a little while i had that problem myself (most games were over 40 minutes, games over an hour werent rare), but i dont even those people wanted them this short. people want games in the 25-45 range, not the 15-25 range

In my 6 years on this game, I dont recall a single major conversation about games being too long. Once again, show me a "popular" post that stated games are too long.

My favourite games are the games where everyone is max level, full build, and it is down to teamfights. With these shorter games, it feels 1/100 chance of happening. Perhaps less.

they need to either make the games longer or make the levels/gold gain faster, and/or items cheaper. watching a Draven with 2-3 items one shot an underfed jinx that is struggling to finish her first item isn't fun to play nor is it interesting to watch.

Kloqdq4 votes

I think Riot forgets that when you make quick 20 minute stomps for LCS and Worlds you lose very close and TIGHT games. Remember xPeke's back door? Remember when CLG ran down the base from Dragon to win the game? Remember TPA in season 2? Remember any hype moment in the Pro scene? Hype is built by close, nail bitting games and when the game is a 1 sided stomp like last years worlds or season 5, games were over almost right at the 10 minute mark, it SUCKS. I rather have a long 50 minute knock out drag because THAT is fucking hype to watch. Those are the best games in memory. 20 minute stomps aren't fun and never will be fun. Even if you win, it doesn't feel good.

Athenes Lulu3 votes

It's not "shorter games" are what made shit unfun, but more because of how snowbally shit become.

The main issue is how comebacks are so difficult to achieve unless the leading team is so bad that they can't keep a lead. Nerfing tower HP does shorten the game, but because of how expensive items still are in comparison to how quickly the game rolls, catching up is rather difficult.

Sdars3 votes

Lower overall damage too. The reason objectives feel like they're made of paper is the constant power creep happening every season. Riot has to man up, realize they messed up and lower all damage. It might feel a little underwhelming for the first 2 weeks or so to see lower damage values, but trust me when I say people will appreciate the change, if done right, and it'll stop feeling underwhelming once they get used to the new "baseline" of damage for the game.

10 fps3 votes

I just watched a 50 minute LCS game. Blue team was winning and everybody thought the game was over until 30-40 minutes into the game and they started losing. This is at the highest level of play. Show me some evidence that games are shorter.

Secondly, that is your opinion. Your opinion is not a fact so stop presenting it as such. I'm sure there are a lot of people who disagree with you and Riot doesn't have to "realize" anything based on the opinion of a small group of people.

Yadid3 votes

Agreed. So many times have I been on the stomped early/mid-game or been on the receiving end, but b/c the other team didn't surrender and played better macro or just got a better team fight the tides turn.

Akali Prime3 votes

i think riot needs to buff towers and nerf all damage.

GripaAviara3 votes

The problem here imho is the fact champions are divided in 3 very obvious power spikes: early, mid and late. If they would tone down this power spikes the game would not fell this rushed and chaotic

Wildlife13 votes

It's not only SR the one with the problem. ARAM games last 10 mins on average and have the same problem as SR. Stomp or being stomped, neither fun nor enjoyable.

Baka Red3 votes

To me that "ten minutes" sounds too short. In my ARAM experience the average game is around 20 minutes in length (around 15 min to 30 min). I think I have had total of one or two at max games that have lasted less than 10 minutes. I had one that barely passed 10 minute mark yesterday when one of the enemies stopped playing around 6 minutes for some reason. To me the current duration of an ARAM match is "okay" - If it had to be changed, I would rather see them little longer rather than shorter.

Rift Games - I don't know about those anymore. I have only played ARAMs for the last couple of years.
