Welcome, fellow League players! If you have chosen to read this post, then you have expressed interest in learning how to effectively utilize Sion's passive ability, Glory in Death!

http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/6.24.1/img/passive/Sion_Passive1.png

This is a very unique and potentially powerful ability that can turn your death into a double, triple, quadra, maybe even a pentakill! The passive may appear simple at first glance, but it is filled with meaningful decisions that will determine your success as Sion. Effectively using Sion's passive is a true sign of skill as a player!

As a longtime Sion main, I have put together a simple flowchart to help any aspiring Sion player learn how to effectively use his passive.

https://i.imgflip.com/1ixzqo.jpg

This chart contains all the basics you need to know in order to make the most of your passive when it activates. Make sure you follow all the steps closely, especially if you make it down to "DANCE!!!". It is a very important step, and is extremely effective in tilting your opponent. If you chase after them without being able to catch them, it will only make them feel good about themselves. And Sion hates it when people feel good about themselves.

So go out there, die a glorious death, and beat the snot out of people with your corpse!

As a Sion main I can confirm that this works in around 90%-97.5% of cases.

tell your allies to stop being pussies when you have an after death dps passive

It really amazes me how many Sions will chase a champion they have literally no chance of catching instead of farming some minions lol.

Glory ln Death2 votes

Yep, and you can tell the effect it has on the enemy when they stop and dance or laugh or flash their mastery. It's really just going to tilt you and make them laugh at you.

Sometimes it works. Best to not put too much faith in your passive to kill.

Showing this to my brother. I think he'll get a kick out of this. XD

You forgot to add that if died in the middle of pushing a tower, either go punch the tower some more or go rushing into the defender's backline and do your thing.

Ralanr2 votes

If it's the nexus, punch the nexus. Fuck that nexus.

Glory ln Death2 votes

What are towers but really big minions? FARM ALL THE TOWERS!!!

Sion is my second highest mastery champion... And I can confirm this is pretty fucking accurate.

Dancing/Farming with passive, and then quickly using Death Surge towards the enemy when they don't expect it should've been mentioned tho. There are some mindgames to do with it :P

You do occasionally come across some... people of questionable intelligence who come back to try and auto you a few times while you're farming with your passive, so there are definitely situations where you can bait them. It just doesn't happen often enough that I felt it wasn't worth it to include in the flowchart. It's more of an advanced tactic, while this is a beginner's guide.

Fair enough ^^

Nice nice yep that's about it. Can confirm as a Sion main

Ah for those of you still reading this comment here is a small list of awesome stuff to utilize to increase the value of Sion passive

Let's kick off with the stormraiders mastery, very useful for the passive, get rid of those pesky slows while ghosting yourself up. Oh and it's very useful in lane, start W then E into Q into W, you shield damage, slow stun and pop the shield taking0 damage yourself chunking like 40+ % of theirs and you zoom off to safety while they still stunned. best trades ever!!

Now onto the items

item 3800 Yes Righteous GORE just look at that chart, what did it say, have 50 more move speed then your enemy? well you now have 500 more, and a fat aoe slow! It also gives you some nice tank stats with health and sustain always useful for a tank!

item 3069 Similar to Righteous glory but instead of slowing you speed up your team as well!! go beat the snot out of them!!

item 3142 Movement speed like righteous glory & talisman, a bit less though this one makes you hit like a train! Go fort and build a mountain of the dead!

item 3074 Better farming with passive, also aoe lifesteal!! you get 100% bonus lifesteal in passive now picture this in aoe, how long can you make your passive last? can you make it until respawn? with death time reduction quints you actually can for the majority of the game !!

item 3748 Yes the other hydra, makes you farm like a beast with passive, best thing though the attack reset, which will apply nuclear damage since you are Sion, works fantastic with storm raiders surge !

item 3022 Well everyone knows about this one, really annoying on Sion passive.

item 3109 Keeping your allies alive even after death, also your ally now keeps your passive alive too as long as they keep on fighting with your passive!!

item 3072 Yes you can over heal now, giving you perma shield with your retard amount of lifesteal your passive decay targets the shield first allowing you to extends it's duration for a long time

item 3139 No, no that stun didn't stop you from murdering them anyway, the 50% speedboost didn't hurt either!

item 3152 Yes your passive now has access to a dash, Surpise motherfucker!

item 3143 Aoe slow, apply right before you die, watch your enemies panic as they can't get away from your passive!

What about black cleaver?

Glory ln Death1 votes

It's a pretty decent item, both during life and death. The Rage speedboost can help stick to a target once you get to them, and the armor shred is pretty useful since you have such high attack speed during your passive.

Ralanr1 votes

Eh, I feel mallet provides more utility for your team.

Glory ln Death1 votes

Excellent additions. I mean, how could item 3800 Righteous Glory not synergize well with your passive? It's even got glory right in the name!

Righteous Glory. Glory in Death. It's the perfect combo! Seriously, though - that item was basically made for Sion. Unfortunately, after its nerfs a while back, it can't really be considered a must-buy, but it's still pretty decent on Sion in the right circumstances.

One other item I'd add is item 3025. It's really effective while you're alive (Mana, CDR, Spellblade passive, Armor), but it's also useful for your passive. It makes your first auto after using Death Surge hit like a truck, and slows enemies in an area around the target. It's a pretty good combination with other items (Righteous Glory in, reactivate for the slow, start beating them down, activate Death Surge once the Righteous Glory slow wears off, punch them again for lots of damage and another slow, Randuin's after that slow wears off, etc).

A good Sion tactic is to charge in on them, hoping that you get focused and die. Meanwhile your team went right behind you and start fighting. Right at the beginning when they're going in, you are ressurecting. In the middle of the mess no one notices you

Also I almost always get Frozen Heart. I love watching their faces of terror after the first punch

I find it rather discouraging how his passive encourages you to farm over attacking enemies if they have a single form of soft cc. Literally an auto from someone with red buff makes your passive null and void. At this point in time, I think that is the only thing that needs to be changed on sion. Like give him a 0 - 50% move speed boost towards enemy champions or something.

It's pretty fun when you play ad sion though.

Glory ln Death2 votes

Well, he already has his Death Surge ability during his passive (50% bonus movespeed that decays over 1.5 seconds). The problem is, that usually isn't enough to even catch up to people after your death animation unless you naturally have (~50, as described in the flowchart) more movespeed than the enemy. Or if they're just stupid and don't automatically run away.

I would recommend adding a small slow resist throughout the entire passive or a large slow resist during Death Surge. Possibly including a soft Cleanse when he activates Death Surge (soft in that it only removes slows, not hard CC). And maybe make the speed boost decay over 2 seconds, instead of 1.5 for just a slight speed increase.

kasfas1 votes

I may have given you an understatement when I say it's fun on ad sion.

It's FUCKING AWSOME when you ult bot and get a triple with your passive because each auto deals upwards of 200 damage at level 9.

Man, that was an awesome game. I've never had more fun with this game than when I played ad lethality sion.

Now back on topic. A slow removal would be good, but still not make his passive useful. The reason I suggest move speed towards enemies is because it encourages you to actually fight them instead of just farming minions. If I wanted to have a passive for farming, I'd just go play farm simulator instead.

Slow resistance might be ok, but I think move speed is just better overall.

Glory ln Death1 votes

I think the problem is, if they make it too reliable for you too get to the enemy, then the damage you can deal is overwhelming, especially at early levels. Right now, though, there are very few situations in lane where you can reliably catch your opponent.

kasfas1 votes

Hence the 0 to 50% buff. Scales with level. But to be real here, tank sion's autos in passive aren't the biggest threat in the game, so I don't see how letting him get a few of in team fights is bad.

I mean we could always jut give him a .5 second fear for enemies close to his revive spot, which would be thematically awesome, and remove the move speed altogether, but that's just ignoring the problem.

Glory ln Death1 votes

In team fights, there's almost never any problem getting to people so you can slap them. Plus, even if you can't get to them, that usually means they're actively avoiding you and not being effective fighting your team.

But at low levels in lane, the damage that - even as a tank - Sion can deal is very significant. 10% of their max health + your base damage with your very high attack speed is quite a bit when they only have base armor.

I've got Mecha Zero Sion, my dance is beautiful

  • not a Sion main.

Having played a crap ton of Sion I can agree this is 100% accurate. lol. Only thing I got is there should be a "is there a tower nearby?" question as well, because its legit useful for chunking a tower.
