is he still the absolute pile of shit he was a few years ago, or is he a shiny pile of shit now? been considering playing him cuz I love the drain tank archetype.

He's pretty decent. He have a good laning, and know contrary to his old version, he have a decent scaling. And is useful during Teamfight (more tankiness, good cd...)

His winrate is alright, although that's obviously not everything. I play him occasionally and would say that I enjoy him. He's pretty binary though.

Not a drain tank. Duelist with really minor teamfighting tools.

He wants to be a lane bully revolving around all-ins, this means he has lanes he will dominate and lanes he will get his teeth kicked in.

I advise picking him after you know who you are laning against.

Balance-wise, Aatrox is decent. Is he fun to play? Kinda. He's not really a drain tank, his scalings are just strange, and there really isn't much you can do with him.

I've played him a few times. I mean, he's alright. Kinda falls off hard if you're behind yet you're pretty hard to kill if you have a decent lead. He's pretty risky too. Once you've gone in, you're gonna have to stay there and fight until either one of you die or until your Q comes back up.

I say at least try him. You might like it :)

He's definitely one of the better top laners right now in solo q. His laning phase is very strong and his scaling isn't half bad either. He's one of the few top laners that can handle both ranged champs and juggernauts and he also does well against other bruisers. He does fall off a bit once teamfights start but he is absolutely stellar against low DPS teams, especially AP ones. Slap on a Spirit Visage and a lifesteal item and he is never going to die against AP teams reliant on burst.

He's strong top cause nobody expects the level 2 all-in where they have to burn flash ( at least in low elo). Also he can almost 1shot a squishy with item 3748
