Can someone explain to me about Aatrox's W?

I feel like I'm doing something very wrong here, when I use it to fight I feel like I'm dying faster -_- but when I see other people do it they don't seem to die faster at all.

When is it supposed to be the right time to use his W anyways?

Use the lifesteal W against tankier targets that are willing to stand there and let you whack them a bit. Use the damage W on squishier targets that are likely to run away from you.

ooo so it's better to not use it against a darius or a riven eh?

Oh Jesus those are two of his worst counters. I just faced a Jax and realized I had no chance yesterday...won though, yeah more team presence.

The entire time you should be healing and poking/last hitting with E. If you are ahead (in kills or a good amount in CS) then you can fight. But I rarely....if not never, use empowered W against Riven or Darius.

I like to think of it was a squishy champion execute more-so than a constant presence in a fight. Unless it's the jungle, then it's a great way in raise your passive AS.

darius and riven will probably kill you regardless of which W you use. against riven I would recommend the damage W and building very tanky. Against Darius I would recommend a BotRK and some armor and using the lifesteal W.

Granted, if you're good at Aatrox you will toggle between the two in a fight to get the most out of the under 50% passive. I just use lifesteal if I'm worried about losing a sustained battle and I use damage if I want to win the fight quickly because I'm afraid my target will escape.

his w has a passive which is every third strike he gains life back, if you activate it (sword turns a purple hue in classic skin) every third strike he deals bonus damage but it costs him health.

Now the kicker is with the passive part, when his health is below 50% the third strike will restore 200% bonus lifesteal.

The way i generally do it is to turn it on till you health hits about 50% then turn it off to gain more health back.
