Why removing lazer turrents?

Ozzie Storm··13 votes·3,942 views

I noticed that the new season will remove the lazer mechanic from the inner turrent making them attack like the outer turrents. I'm not sure why this change is happening. It always felt like these turrents are stronger and need planning around while removing the lazer would make them weaker/more diveable.

Plz share your reasoning and opinion. Much appreciated ^^

I'm on the fence about this.

on one hand: I dont like the lazers, i understand what they are going for, but the counter play will always be wait for minions, or beef up to tank the damage.

On the hand: I want the towers to be more efficient to avoid tower diving with minions around.

Have additional mechanics to defensive towers:(not all of course, just some ideas)

  1. an AOE slow (turrent range) when enemy champions are detected (once every 4-5 secs)
  2. more than one tower shot (one for minions, and/or one for enemy champions when attacking allied champion)
  3. as less towers are on the map, the remaining towers get stronger in damage etc (small buff for escalation)
  4. proximity detection, as soon as an enemy champion is detected in behind the turret, turret fires of them, not minions (priority on lowest HP champ) <----my favourite( could use tuning)
  5. Turret aura's: Shares Armour or MR with champions while under Turret. (small area and allied minions affected)
  6. Damage dealt is true damage (lower starting damage, ramps up for escalation)

just some ideas, Turrets should be feared until ready to take on.

they took away the slow from the lazers so i donut know why they'd think about adding it in a different iteration

well it could be a wave which give a short decaying slow 0,5 seconds, like the item 3030

but the laser made you perma slowed which made diving someone in a 1v1 near impossible at times allowing them to defend with very little health at low risk which wasn't too healthy

Somewhere along the lines of League history, tower diving became a skill and not something to avoid.

I remember back when taking 2 tower shots would basically destroy your health bar no matter the champion. Now'a days, an ADC can take like, 4 tower shots before having to back off. Where's the protection?

The removal of lasers just furthers this silly notion.

i've seen adc's kill turrets from 1/3 hp with no minions around

you can solo turrets with no minions around from literally 70-50% hp. shyvanna is one of them. xin can do it.

anyone with a bunch of ad and attackspeed can do it, towers getting cucked by champion despite dmg reduction is actually absurb.

just get a triforce. a bunch of armor. steraks. and u can 1v1 turrets lmao.

IKR, tower diving is super easy too, I had times where I strsight up ignored 2 towers and chased down an adc as volibear and came back basically full hp becaise the towers do jack shit.

We added lazorz in a world where those turrets were also tankier and had some other distinctions that have gradually eroded over time (because they weren't fun or didn't make that much of a difference). We figured out that the lazers themselves were causing a performance hit at least on some machines, so we evaluated whether they were really worth preserving. We weren't convinced they were making a huge difference, so the lasers went away. Do you miss them?

While I do hope they give us an official statement in the patch notes, someone asked RiotGhostcrawler about it recently:

Q: I noticed that base turrets on the PBE don't fire lazorz anymore. Could we get some context on that? Stronger? wat? The turrets with Lasers are so weak. People dive them all the time.

I do like the Laser Turrets. It felt like there was a difference in the otherwise monotonous objectives. The laser turret starts slow, and then will ruin your day. Nexus Turrets heal. Tier one turrets provide a shield. Tier two turrets provide protection for the first five minutes of a game.

The laser turrets, IMO, we're the weakest turrets in the game. They killed minions way too slowly, and for being base defense, they weren't that punishing on enemies which they were targeting. Normal turret fire chunking your HP was a lot more of an incentive to get out of the turret range to me.

New: Cannon Turret. Does high single target damage with small AOE.

What I've noticed is that it takes much longer for the new nexus turrets to kill super minions. For example, if you were to use a Ryze ult to tp two super minion waves from mid lane to an outer top turret, those super minions would most likely (if left alone) kill that turret and if not would chunk them down to very low but if you were to tp two super minion waves from mid to an old inner bot lane turret, that turret would most likely kill the two waves. My concern is that it will be much easier to end now and much harder to defend. I am worried that there will be no last minute saves or turn arounds because the new nexus towers can barely hold their own against super minions. I'd love to hear what you guys think.
