Do specific regions have more of a higher champion playerbase?

I rarely ever encounter any Aurelion Sol, Soraka, Azir, Ivern, Jhin mains for example.

When ever I play I always encounter the same set of champions every game, Zed, Master Yi, Yasuo, Akali, Jax, Lee Sin, Ryze.

Makes the game seem a little dull when being matched up against the same number of champions on daily basis.

Is it the same for you, people of boards?

Pretty much the same on NA. Garen, Zed, Yi, Yasuo... Surprising no one, they're also the ones who the largest volume of people seem to have at M7.

Yeah the Shaco Nunu come from hell.

However, those shaco mains have earned my respect.

Different Elos and different regions have different metas.

Different regions totally do have different playrates for different champions.

Sort by Pick Ratio per game. You'll see that each region has a quite different spread of popular and unpopular champions. This reminded me of the Clairvoyance Blog about summoner 4 . It shows that different regions have different preferences for Flash on D or F. Since regions disagree about which key is better to have flash on, you can expect regions to have differing playrates of Champions too.
