Maybe people need time to pull the little splinters out of their finger before attacking again. Thornmail was intended to be a minor inconvenience after all.

They're adding hp to it, after previously nerfing all hp gains off all the other tank items available in the game, that by itself is a buff to Thornmail, because tanks needed more hp sources. They're adding GW to it, when in the current meta, all tanks are nothing but hp bags for lifesteal builds to draintank off, so adding GW to it is a godsend. Hell, adding a source of GW that doesn't require you to hit the target, is already a godsend; "b-but what if the enemy doesn't h-hit you?!" that's why you itemize your tank to be a looming threat of impending doom, instead of a hulking behemoth of lots of hp and armor and 0 offense, and protip: Cinderhulk nor Sunfire aren't the way to turn a tank into a threat, because these two are the worst items in the game
