Soo....Soraka and the new Warmog's

Ok, so before the change, warmog's was a situational item on Soraka. It was good if you had a bunch of gold and rotated a lot with your team if you had a decent chunk of AP already.

New Warmog's at first seems really bad for Soraka. And maybe it still is. The regen got buffed considerably but only kicks in when you have 3000 HP. (3% of your maximum health per second)

The regen is actually crazy good. The problem is actually getting there, which is hard for support Soraka. BUT I was theory crafting a bit: if you could get items with both AP and HP, you could build to that 3k HP without gutting your heal completely.

I was thinking of: Riyals, Banner, Sightstone, Talisman, Boots, Warmog's.

This is an extra 1550 HP on Soraka, but with 160 AP. At level 14, with these items, Soraka will have the passive regen. At this level, with runes and masteries, I would have 160+15+6+25= 206 AP That means the heal would be 363. This is more than the 300 HP you are giving up.

So you get the crazy regen with a pretty efficient heal; it sounds pretty good on paper. You still ahve some utility in the Banner passive, active, and of course Talisman is Talisman. You only need 3 seconds for your heal to regen out of combat. 3 seconds

As you level, you can adjust your build to maintain the 3000 HP. You could sell the crystal scepter and get Liandry's or something so you can stay as close to the 3000HP mark. (Note that Liandry's has less ap, but with ap per level masteries and runes you can solve this a bit)

At level 18, you can drop the crystal scepter entirely and pick up something else (like Twin Shadows, Zeke's, etc.) and still have the 3000HP.

The bad?

  1. Only 20% CDR in this build (30 if you count masteries) You can get CDR boots to fix this, but Mobility boots are so good on Soraka I feel like it would be hard to pass up. You can throw in some runes if you want.

  2. Only kicks in at level 14 the earliest. Some games you aren't even going to reach that as a support. However, Banner is a common support item so its not like you have to "commit" per se to this build. Plus a NLR builds into a lot of stuff.

  3. Needs a lot of gold. Warmog's isn't exactly cheap, but Banner's cost did go down a bit.

  4. The slow passive is mostly worthless on Soraka, although it does mesh well with E a little.

What do you guys think? Personally I think the biggest con for this would be that it kicks in extremely late (lvl 14 is pretty high for a support) so its probably something not worth going for every game. For those drawn out, long games though you might have a good option here.

The change to Warmogs was a direct nerf to Soraka.

The problem with the new warmongs is its basically riot saying "stop building this item on any champ, instead we want it for tanks only" due to that tanks already have that 3.k + health when they grab warmongs, while others have to get other health items to get it up that high.

Warmogs gives 200% health regen, Banner gives 100% and Talisman gives 100%. Even in combat, Soraka will be keeping herself afloat quite a bit.

I'd say RoA over Rylai's. Same AP, same Health, but more mana and a regen passive that could save your life.
