Now I'm sure someone has asked before but...

Is league ranked ever going to add in a system that takes individual performance into account? Like csgo how the win or loss for the team is more valued then the individual performance, but if you perform well you dont get punished as harshly for the loss or you might not lose anything at all for it. Just curious because I know personally I find it very frustrating when I'm trying to climb and I do very well in a game and then it doesn't even matter because other lanes didn't go so hot and then we lose and I get demoted for it.

It's been mentioned before, I think it'd be a nice addition- there's all sorts of problems that would be had, e.g. not risking a team fight you could die in or something if the overall extra death would prove to be worse for score rating, being really passive/backing out when you could win fights and playing really selfishly with cs/map just to boost your own score with no regards to teammates because your individual score carries you- but there's already problems with the current ranked system, like getting teams you won't win with, or won't happen to win with because that's just how the game played out due to a variety of factors, (life, big or small, emotional, small or big, consistency, champions played/position, etc.) and members- if only one that performed well and is hindered by the team, are dragged down as a whole.

The answer that I've seen is usually "then go play X" well, they can, but they aren't the same game, why are suggestions replied to with "go play X"? This game definitely isn't perfect and can be improved.

The biggest problem is that people tend to think of rank as synonymous with skill which just isn't true. Skill has always been most accurately decided by gameplay.

I can agree with this, lots of valid points. But I would say they should still do something like it. They could just make the individual worth less then team just like other 5v5 team objective ranked systems. It is just frustrating to get demoted, especially in a game where you did very well.

this isn't csgo

Both are 5v5 team objective games. Both have ranked systems, one is just better than the other.

According to who? Your personal preference? Because thats kinda meaningless for everybody else.

Shend it1 votes

Considering you don't even play ranked, your opinion means nothing.

Shend it1 votes

You legit only play ARAM.

Valderis Vandala1 votes

Yeah ARAM is a lot more fun. Normals are already a toxic cesspool so I don't even really wanna know what ranked is like. Plus I don't have to wait as long to get into a game, its pretty sweet.

Shend it1 votes

You're stating that it is meaningless to everyone else. A lot of people share the opinion ranked needs an individual component, there so happens to be one such person who already commented and pointed out a lot of potential errors with it. However still believed it should be added, where as you, a person who does not play ranked, decides to try and comment on this about it. Maybe you should try playing ranked and see how frustrating it is to get paired with teammates who play poorly when you do well and then you try your hardest to carry them and still lose and then you get nothing for all that effort. I get that you enjoy this game and playing ARAM's that's all fine and dandy, but don't try commenting when this is about the competitive community of League, and not the casual one.

It's a free forum, I can comment on whatever I like, as can you, as can everyone.

I think you are taking this way to serious. Its a game meant to bring enjoyment, this is as much true for casual scum like myself as in the competitive scene. The only place where enjoyment isn't a true factor is in the LCS.

People that start talking about how useless or bad their team mates are are a cancer in the community. And yes I get it, I've been there myself I know how it feels, I got a friend who is just absurdly bad at this game and whenever I play with him the game itself becomes that much harder. I know how it feels. But they aren't the problem.

You also need to realize that this isn't csgo, what works there may not be possible in LoL. It's not like you're the first person to ever complain or give suggestions on how to improve ranked and yours are as bad as those of everyone else.

Or perhaps you don't take this serious enough. Do you understand the system Riot uses and why they use it? Do you understand the ramifications your suggestion will have on it? All I see you do is throw out some idea in your opening post but you never elaborate on it, what is it supposed to do, how does it do it, what are potential problems and solutions, etc, etc.

You know what the funny thing is, your half baked idea might even be possible to do, with the mastery system we have now it might actually be possible to get a rating for individuals and excuse the good players from dropping as fast as the bad ones, and its one that can't be exploited because nobody truly knows how it works. Funny how you can't seem to mention this. For all you know Riot has been working on it behind the scenes for a long time.

But is it fair? Can you answer me that?

Shend it1 votes

Already considered the mastery system, as well as the MMR system myself and how they could be used. However if you pay attention to the mastery system, you rarely ever get a good mastery score when your team loses, even if you did well. Also to your point regarding the causal competitive thing, some people play video games to have fun, and others play to win. It's as simple as that, I personally am a very competitive person and if I am not winning or being rewarded for playing well then I am not having fun. Everyone has different opinions on that, but I am sure that I am not the only one who feels that way. Also Riot doesn't release a lot of things about the way that their system works so I wouldn't know if they were working on something yet or not. To answer your question regarding the mastery system being fair, I would argue that it is okay but still needs improvement. I think mastery should be based off of individual performance, I don't think getting a S if you lose the game should be possible because S indicates the best level of play possible and if you did play the champion to its max potential you could have carried the game and won. However I do think getting an A on the losing team should be more common because you can play your ass off and still lose a game. So the mastery system is a work in progress, and if they wanted to tie that into an individual ranked component I would say that it would be better then having none. But it would still need some work to it.

Also while I am complaining about teammates and their performance in regards to me climbing, I do not rage in games. I am sure I have been reported before, but I have never once had a chat ban on my account or a ban of any sort for that matter. Yes it frustrates me to work hard and not get anything on loses. But I keep my mouth shut in games, it doesn't help to flame people at all.

Valderis Vandala1 votes

With that I can only agree.

You also get less EXP and IP when you lose but you sure as hell didn't spent any less time in the match, my point being that such numbers are lowered artificially because Riot seems to have a fetish for fucking over the losing team. But its also possible that there are exponential components in their mastery rating calculations linked to win conditions (like taking a tower) that propel winning team members into far higher numbers. Or both.

Lol, I didn't ask if the mastery system was fair. I asked if having a judgment system that takes special care of "good" players is fair.

Also, mastery grades are based on your individual performance, insofar as you can have individual performance in a team game, which goes back into the question of if its fair to have special rules for good players. Another question that may help your opinion on that question is, do you find it easier to snowball in a lane if you are alone or if you have somebody with you to help you? Or perhaps, do you like to get ganks?

Who the fuck cares about my opinion, its my argument that you have to deal with.

There is a system in place. The system is you. If you are having bad games and cannot carry teams, you are the only common denominator. The League system matches players with other players of similar skill - the enemy team is not challenger players and you don't have 4 allies that just started the game this week. Everyone gets heated sometimes, not just your team. For all you know, the enemy team may be raging harder than your own team in chat.

there are two different issues you listed and i need to know which one you're arguing about. The first issue is players becoming angry, toxic behavior. Threatening to AFK or feed. The second issue is team performance. they do relate to each other because team morale counts, but generally players become angry because they want to win, not because they want to lose. If you're angry because players can't stop typing during a game, mute them. If you're angry your team is underperforming, you must be the person to carry to victory

That being said, if you cannot seem to climb, regardless, the chances are that you are exactly where you belong in the elo poll. Are you saying you want to play against Challenger level players? There is a reason Diamond mains have multiple accounts in Diamond. And there is a reason Silver players cannot get out of Silver. Either you carry yourself to the elo where you belong, or you're already there.

One player makes up 20% of the team. That is a significant portion, and that is enough to have a outstanding impact on the game itself. Players who wreck through elo and climb fast are the one's who say very little, and carry very much. They do not get dragged down by 1 bad game out of 10 wins. But if you are not carrying the majority of the wins, and you are having trouble winning promo's, then there is a reason. And that reason is not your team, because the enemy team is at the same skill level as your own team

Are you saying Riot is teaming you with poor allies and strong enemies? No such system exists.

If you take note of my match history you will see that I do carry the majority of my games. The post was mainly me letting steam off after going 15-5-12 and losing the game because every other lane did poorly. I was gold 1 last season in promos for plat, ended up failing promos 5 times, it was before they gave you the extra win going in was put into place. Took a 4 month break, came back and lost a bunch from being rusty, fell to gold 5. Got placed in silver 5, already back to silver 2, was posting because i got demoted back to silver 3 after doing very well and strictly because of every other lane doing poorly.

Also, your statement is not entirely true, people get boosted to high elos, and then they cant fall out because for whatever reason the system doesn't let you fall out of a division 5, which is silly.

While I don't feel like playing against challengers and I don't think I am challenger, I know that I am better then where I am. I would say high gold - mid plat.

Good point about elo boosters. That is an issue that i feel is similar to ISIS - We don't really know how many there are, and we don't really know how much of an impact they could have on the overall system. But we know they are a threat.

I absolutely cannot stand elo boosters, i have spoke to many randoms who 'claim' to have boosted in the past, and that does absolutely destroy the balance of the game.

But i am also blowing off steam by responding to this thread. I was on a 8 game win streak, and that turned into a 10 game loss streak. Simply because of the 50% win rate balancer ranked me with higher players due to win streaks. I don't care to be Diamond. But loss streaks SUCK.
