Theorycrafting: Can Yasuo jungle?

EvilRabbitt··2 votes·645 views

I know that, TECHNICALLY, anyone can jungle. Just like they can be any lane or position (support Ashe is also ADC Ashe is also Top lane bruiser Ashe for example). But I have noticed many Yasuo players complaining about his fragility and I remembered that when a champ got to soft/unsafe in lane they would usually move to jungle. So, lets see. Input appreciated.

Reference to lvl 1 and 2 stats here, the biggest hurdle for the jungler imo.

Assuming no runes, or masteries, he has: 22 base armor, a 60 hp flow shield which triggers from champions and monsters, 462 base health, and 53.2 base attack damage. Starting item is machete and the 4 hp potions.

Runes, perhaps it would be: Quint: 3 movespeed Mark: Flat AD/crit chance Seal: Flat armor/HP Regen scaling Glyph: Flat Magic Resist/HP Regen scaling

Level Order: 1/Q, 2/E, 3/Q, 4/W, 5/E, 6/R, 7/Q, 8/Q, 9/MAXQ, 10/E, 11/R, 12/E, 13/MAXE, 14/W, 15/W, 16/MAXR, 17/W, 18/MAXW

Camp rotation is: Heavy leash bot lane buff, wraith camp since it gives wolf experience with much less damage, Top lane buff, Top Lane camp (Wraith or Golems).

Since Yasuo's Q does on hit and is a line of aoe, I'm unsure if he should Flare or Lizard.

Thoughts? I tried to space if and make it cohesive.

Flare works best. Speeds your clears up so much and gets you shiv very quickly.

Well, you can always try it. What I would say is that his ganks, given the nature of his knockup and its dependence on stacking his Q, are weak; he brings nothing but damage to a lane, which is really non-ideal for a jungler. The junglers who have weak ganks but moderate success are the ones that farm well (heavy creep damage, good mobility between camps, jungle control), so the question becomes: does Yasuo farm the jungle well? I think the answer to that is probably yes. So yeah, maybe he works with some success.

Do I think he would work as well as a Master Yi or an Udyr? Probably not. He does have more teamfight presence than Udyr and maybe Yi, so he's got a potential niche.

Best way to find out is trial and error though, so give it a go.

Thanks for your thoughts on that, I just did try him. Looks like his ganks are better off post-6 OR after you get attack speed. He flows with Lizard better because he really isn't farm intensive from what I gathered and it gives CDR so you do wind wall a bit more in team fights. Gank wise, it was mostly showing my face and then wind walling off blitz and cait bot lane and them running off. Mid lane was showing up, running through every minion with dash so I blocked Zed combo (minus ult). Top was handled by Fi. Thats all my data mate. And a knockup every 3 seconds (or 6 if you do Lizard) seemed like good cc.

Forgot to mention how I approached my ganks (woulda been better, but my mild amount of lag and lack of Yasuo skill made it difficult at best):

Run into lane, E through minions to get to gankee, Q when possible, Knockup as soon as you could so your fellow laner(s) could catch up, Ult if they were with you.

Tried jungle yasuo twice. Firdt time only cause I had a team completely built around him with knockups and such. Sion top, Malphite supp and Zyra mid. Went pretty well, especially post-6.

2nd game was crap though. I did have two laners with knockups but it was bad because the other jungler was Aatrox and he just kept invading me and generally being a nuisane. Completely shut me down for a good portion of the match. He can't survive counter jungles, like at all. He's like Yi but worse.

The first thing i look up when asking myself if a champion can jug is: Can they clear their first and 2nd buffs. By that I mean can they die to the ir first buff without a leash even when useing pots and smite? or even their 2nd buff when they useally don't have a leash? In Yasuo the answer is No he cant really safely clear his first buff. He's kinda like Evelynn as a jug. Without a leash they will be behind and useless threw the starting 5-10 mins of a match.

And when trying this out do it without runes and masterys, bc that will show if they are jugable or not.

2nd would be their ganking ability.

What makes a good jug ganker...
Simple ask Do they have ?

A. Gap closers

B. Stun/ fear/ slow

C. Power to finish.

D. General tankyness.

And those are pretty much in order on whats needed, Yasuo has A. and Has C but falls off on B and D.

So with all that being said on the Jug side Yasuo fails, on the ganking side he's average at best

So Yasuo would make a poor jug, bc he simply would have a hard time keeping up with the games pace.

If you have knockups then it can work

He has next to no pressure early game due to losing every 2v2/1v1 from being squishy as hell and his CC being heavily delayed until you have AS

Once you get rolling you can powerfarm a shiv and run around ulting off stuff like usual

i guess he could have interesting lane ganks if he went through the wave after prepping his Q

i dont think it would be that great though, plus he doesnt really benefit from blue buff at all, so his early clear wouldn't be that great relative to champions with stronger skills and mana constraints.
