What is a Support? Why do I have to follow the Meta in New Dynamic Queue; or I'm the Troll

Wickedfates·1/26/2016, 5:54:02 PM·6 votes·1,188 views

I'm a support main, and I prefer Sona. Ya... I know, she's squishy, but hey.... Sona love... always, from her true aura dayz So this was never a problem when Teambuilder was around, but with the new Dynamic Queue you have to have 2 roles, and people cannot change teams when they don't like the dynamic for "free" ok... i dislike change but the winds, she are a blowin'.....

I sometimes also like to mess around with Teemo. WAIT WAIT WAIT! I know, but hey, we love who we love, even when it hurts.... Teemo love...

Whenever I queue up, I go Primary: Support, Secondary either top or mid, to try and get support, all over the boards it says mid and top are the favorites, but I seem to get mid or top a few times in a row easily.... when I get my secondary I go Teemo, sometimes when I get support I go Teemo because I need to practice him more, because I need to fill 2 roles.... and also because I think Teemo support can be fun... (fun; that's a concept)

***So now to my problem: Why can't I play a champion; any champion, without being Bad Mannered (bm) I'm not trolling, I let people know I want to go support Teemo right away, and they say stuff from polite; "pls don't, god please DON'T".... to not so polite, that I wont repeat...

-I have had Teemo banned by my own team -I have had Teemo selected by other players who they said have never played him, just so I would not play Teemo support -I have had a ton of dodges -I have had a lot of people trying to troll me into dodging -ect...

I'm a casual in the sense that I don't play ranked and I think this game is fun, and suppose to be fun.... when I don't think its fun I take a break from it.... no worries... But most of the time I do enjoy it.

Why is it that people who think like I do, and from reading the boards it seems there are at least some of us represented, are considered trolls for trying anything off general accepted role of support limited to a handful of champs.... by handful I mean 5 roles you can select, over 120 champions, and maybe 10% (prob way over) of that champion pool is a viable support, viable being higher ranked where Riot has specifically stated they balance to, also known as plat+

My solution to this is simple. Bring back a form of Teambuilder, or set up a system that allows playing a specific role/champ that is not bots. If there were so few people who thought like I do that, "We want to play the champ or role we want." then there would not have been the calmer that occurred; but it did.

OK, so here is a post that is respectful, to the point, and brings a problem and a solution. So please according to your criteria, maybe take a second to respond to it..... BTW I'm an adult I can take a no, what I dislike is politicians answer's. Which tend to be generalized statements, platitudes, promises that are fictional, or technical jargon that is above my skill level.

Hey, pretend I'm a simple average person with an average intelligence and comprehension of technology and explain to me, why your company allows people who are trying to play your game to be attacked, over and over again when they are following every rule, and the people opposed to them are the ones breaking the rules.

Here's the thing, most people want to win. Teemo support brings down their chance of winning, as fun as he may be for you.

I think mostly if you want to pick these unconventional/unpopular champs then you have to set up a premade that's ok with it. Otherwise you have to deal with the people you're queued with until you get an accepting group, which can take a while.

It's not about meta. It's about being viable period. People play ranked to win. I never understood why people don't understand this concept of ranked.

"You're not allowed to have fun at the expense of your team, " Riot.

You aren't picking Teemo support because "He does X and can beat a Thresh". You are picking Teemo because "Teemo would be fun and I'm bored of Thresh". (Meaning you aren't playing to win, you are playing to have fun)

Edit - Sorry missed the part where you said no ranked. If it's not ranked by all means do whatever the hell you want to.

Actually, Teemo support is very viable and is fine to be picked.

Don't worry man, in seasons 2,3,4 people would flame you and report you for picking Nautilus support or Annie support or Brand support or basically anything that wasn't considered a meta pick by the sheeple.

The majority of champions can be picked as support and be perfectly viable. There are some who do not work, like Akali, Eve, Nasus but the majority of champs are fine. Buy a sightstone and ward, don't feed in lane, don't steal CS. That's a support.

I don't understand why Teemo isn't accepted as a support. He has as much support capacity as anyone, what with his Blind, his non-dependent-on-bushes stealth, and the capability to slow and poison everything in sight with mushrooms and basic attacks. The blind alone does more than some crowd control offered by other supports, as the inability for the opposing ADC to make trades puts the odds ever in your favor.

Not sure why you are downvoted you are right and shouldn't be yelled at just for playing something random as long as you are actually helping.

P.S. I had a swain support my last game... gave zero fucks it was a placement game too lol http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=drehirth

others are talking down on you, but you have my support (hah)[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

It sounds like you might just be getting unlucky. I've been playing a bunch of Gangplank support and Irelia support in Dynamic Queue normals, and I haven't had anyone be rude to me about it. I think one time an ADC asked politely for me to not play Irelia support, so I said "ok" and played Alistar instead.

I guess another possibility is that whatever elo you are playing at is less tolerant of off-meta picks. In that case, if you are willing to be flexible and play Sona support if Teemo support makes your ADC uncomfortable, then any raging is completely on your teammates and you should just ignore it. Yes, it sucks that you have to put up with anything like that, but I don't think there is much Riot can actually do about it. Even if teambuilder is brought back, the pressure not to play Teemo support would still be present, just not as personal because captains would kick you over and over until someone was open minded enough or waited long enough to let you play it.

Let the naysayers say what they want non meta supports are how a new meta is born

I've supported shaco multiple times, and the best part is, I did it well and my team loved me

It's not who you take support (or anywhere really) it's how you play them

I'm a support main as well And my advise to you is this

Try to get a feel for your teams goals, if your adc wants an aggressive lane teemo might be a decent choice

If your adc wants to just farm and wants healing and shields from you, they will clearly not want teemo

If they want a defensive farm lane you can still go someone non support

For example I've gone support anivia and just zoned thier team while my vayne farmed, they came after us, I dropped wall behind them, vayne condemned I Qed and they ran, never tried to fight us again, because they knew they would die, this made vayne not need healing because now they were to scared to fight

I think as a community we gotta start saying it's ok to pick whatever you want as a support, so long as you're still playing support. Support nidalee, long as you buy those support items your team depends on, go nuts, support nidalee that starts dorans ring and skips sightstone for roa, that's the enemy and we should purge those support nidalees

The baseline criteria for a support is that they focus on their utility over any real offensive capability. This can be interpreted in any number of ways; I interpret it as doing whatever the rest of the team isn't. A support can provide utility through applying crowd control, buffing and healing allies, tanking hits for the team, harassing the enemy and forcing them out of lane, or being a deterrence that stops them from getting close. The main idea is that you're doing these things for your team, not for yourself. It's not just being about a ward mule; that's completely missing the point of many of the major changes these past two years.

Here's a concept

Teemo support is fun for you

It's not fun for anyone on your team

Ask your teem mates while in banning phase if they wanna switch. One of the four probably didn't get their ideal spot themselves. It's all about communication

OK then, I see I was wrong. Thank you for showing me what the community thinks so I can make an informed decision based off of a good discussion on the forums.

Look. I don't care about unconventional supports. I played a game with an instalocked Olaf support and he destroyed bot lane, then went mid and destroyed mid, and then decided to counterjungle for the fuck of it because why not he was more fed than the enemy jungler.

However, that was a smart choice because I op.gg him and he was great at Olaf while our ADC was Lucian. Olaf can easily slow and burst the enemy AD or support and set up kills for Lucian who is also very bursty.

When I see a 0 games Teemo or 20% win rate Teemo lock in Teemo support, for a team that doesn't play well with Teemo (escapeless ADC and cc-less mid) I can't take it as anything other than pure troll. You can't allow yourself to get outpicked in my elo so hard like that.
