What was the reason for Thresh' W nerf?
After a long break I've observed that
' lantern only gives armor to 2 people, including me. The armor wasn't that big so why make it only for 2 people?

I think that it just gives a small shield now, and the main reason is that play making supports can't be strong on their own. He's been nerfed for a long time.
His shield also now scales with souls collected.
they nerfed it to all hell because of the fact it's a get out of jail free but the shield is pretty much pointless at all stages.
Because with windspeaker you could apply the armor to 5 people.
Who the heck takes Windspeaker on Thresh? I mean he's a tank, or at the least a fighter.
Some used to do, by the way, thresh is an utility support, pretty much like bard, i know it sounds strange but i took a while to realize it too... Also since i'm at it, pick thunderlords so you can get the 45% cdr so your grab maxed out will have a cooldown of 5 seconds.
yeah but you have to hit a combo for thunderlords
If his lantern shielded every ally nearby, many more would have been taking Windspeaker's Blessing.
Many of them want Intelligence from the cunning tree and it would have probably been the best keystone available (until Courage of the Colossus was released).
That happened in season 4 when they handed out a round of nerfs to all the top supports.
um, thresh used to give armor to the whole team some months ago

He never gave teammates armor; however, he does shield people and use to be able to shield the whole team until patch 4.13.
Actually Thresh's shield from his lantern can and has saved his team mates from dying on countless occasions even 1 point of health can be the difference between life and death for a player :)
Plus he's also super stupid tanky and can completely change a game with any one of his abilities. so its more balanced now for counter play
Using your lantern in a way that people actually take the lantern is more interesting than maxing shield second and just using it as a locket which is what people were doing. This change also happened in season 4 so yeah.
Yep, actually after this change i consider braum more overloaded than thresh
