And what? WHAT? If I play normals does that mean that I can't try to win? Seriously stop being butthurt about people playing serious in normals, they want to win, not to waste time.

I like to win and since I mostly play normals since i'm literal garbage, but normals are the place for "off-meta" picks (Like AP Malphite or Karthus support etc.)

Don't treat the game like it's ranked, but don't just intentionally not care about losing.

Here's the issue though: I played Ahri JG last game. My team thought I was trolling. They reported me because I went 11/11.

Of course it isn't, but time when the enemy stomps is is a complete waste.

Evewynn12 votes

That's the risk for playing a zero sum game. Losing in varying degrees is one of the reasons why winning feels so good, because it creates a challenge (even if it's an illusion of challenge where you completely destroy the enemy team from the start). So the loss might feel shitty and a waste, but it DOES set up future feelings of accomplishment. Just something to think about.

Elikain1 votes

The point OP was making is that even if it's a Normal game, people should try to win them as well. It isn't a commodity reserved for Ranked only and if you don't want to try to win at all, why are you even playing?

It isn't a zero sum game unless people come playing the game with 0 expectations and no one tries to win on both teams. Where's a challenge here? Or where's the challenge if one of your teammates is not giving a damn about the current game and your entire team is tasked to compensate and try to win a 4v5? And i'm talking about intentionally making it a 4v5.

I have to disagree. Normals is the place to work on off meta builds, and acquire technical mastery. No one wants to lose, per se, and I have to think you're conflating your perception about how a game should be played with the correct way to play a game.

ultimately, if you want a million games where everyone copies the pro scene, jump in the ranked queue.

Elikain2 votes

I don't really care what's in the meta or not, if people try in games they play in. If you don't want to try to win, play a custom game or a bot game, not a game mode with other players that you don't care if you let down in the end.

I, as a teammate, am your judge and jury. I want you to perform in your game because i hold the same expectations for myself and the others. Doesn't matter if this is an ARAM, Ranked/Normal, TT or any other RGM queue. I reserve the right to report anyone based on their performance and chat and whether some action gets taken against the reported person depends on Riot's auto Tribunal system. It's my way of letting Riot and the player in question know that their performance and/or attitude was unacceptable.

I don't report people for some oddball picks or builds. But i will report people if those picks and a weird build makes them perform poorly - those people usually have an attitude where they point a finger at everyone else but their own dumb decision to play what they've chosen, with a build that had the odds greatly stacked against them. I despise those opinionated assholes.

I can admit that there's more than one way to win a game in League. If you want to try an unorthodox build, run a double bruiser bot lane, or something else that isn't within the meta, fine... as long as you believe that you have a decent chance of winning.

Some people play Normals to win. Others play Normals to practice for ranked. Both approaches are constructive and something I can work with. If you're tryharding, fine I'll tryhard too. If you're playing a champion for the first time and trying to jungle with him, fine I'll practice something too.

Really, it just comes down to the people who know (or believe) they have a slim chance of winning but do something anyways who aren't constructive and end up wasting everyone else's time.

Yeah... but you practicing in norms isn't impacted by another players pick choice. You should practice playing extra safe and doing your best to CS without dying. There are times in ranked where you will end up with shitty team mates and will have to do the same to win.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

practicing playing safe and csing without dying is only going to take you so far (bronze 4) if you aren't also capitalizing and actually getting chances to do anything because of trolls and other sorts of bad examples

One's practicing in norms is absolutely impacted by another player's troll picks and in more ways than one

You say Bronze 4 but doing just that and then learning to take advantage in lane and roam is what got me from Bronze 5 (0LP) to Silver 4. It's not like in every single game there is a troll. So yes, it is a valuable learning experience to play safe and CS.

Roaming isn't unsafe play. It just has to be done properly by warding , watching the minimap, and clearing enemy wards. Yes roaming is harder with trolls, so it's good practice in doing it safely by keeping an eye on what your trollish team mates are doing.

CerealBoxOfDoom2 votes

roaming with trolls will not teach you how to roam with good players, it will teach you how to roam with trolls and people who are practically asleep. You should just play bots for that.

Just cause a troll is in the game doesn't mean you're roaming WITH them. You can roam to a lane that doesn't have a troll in it.

if top has a troll and the jungler ganks or even doesn't bother ganking top then that affects every other part of the map. What happens in one lane effects every lane.

When there is a troll the entire team is affected

If you are playing explicitly to win, go play ranked. There is no reason to play normals if you are playing to win, and to hell with everything else. If you are practicing something you are bad at (new role) or a new champion with the goal of taking them into ranked then that's fine. But if you are playing your mastery 7 100000 champion point ranked main in normals, then I have no pity for you and wish you the worst.

You do realize that some people (like me) fear ranked because there are so many trolls? And wish me the worst because I play a game TO WIN? I'm okay with somebody trying something new and losing because of that, but I'm not okay with somebody who just doesn't give a crap because "It is a normal game" and losing because of that

CeexSett13 votes

Normals actually have more trolls than rankeds. most people who say they will troll/afk/int in ranked get scared of losing that LP and stop.

In normals there is hardly any punishment apart from reports, which most people don't even bother, so it's easier to go trough with trolling.

Playing to win is okay for normals. It's not tryhard to flash for a kill, or gank multiple times, or buy pinks for stealth champs (HURR DURR TAT GUY BUYING WARDS FOR ME WHAT A TRYHARD NOOB!!!1!!11), but playing your level 7 mastery Yasuo in your Silver Smurfs just to style on people having fun and then proceed to spam mastery and "ggez u even trying?" is definitely tryharding and is pretty toxic.

Although I agree that you should be trying in every single queue, I do believe some folks take things more seriously. After playing for 6 years, this is how I personally feel about each queue.

Ranked Queue/Dynamic - You should be trying your hardest, playing to the best of your ability. If possible, using your best champions and role.

Normal Draft - Strictly practice for ranked without the stress of LP loss. Want to try out a new champion that you've been practicing? Try it out here. Test your strategies here before bringing them into ranked. This mode should also be taken seriously.

Normal Blind Pick - This is what I consider the casual queue. Want to try a champion for the first time? Go for it. Want to play a non-meta pick and just have fun with a group of friends? Great! That's what this queue is for. Normals blind pick should not be taken as seriously as TSM vs Cloud 9 finals like a lot of people make it out to be. I definitely agree that you should be trying to win and make smart decisions if possible, but I also think you should try cheese strats and just generally focus on having fun.

I believe if everyone had this mentality on the queues and quit treating all three like they are they same, people wouldn't be bitching as often as they do. There is definitely a casual/social aspect of this game and it should remain separated from the hardcore players who just like to rank up. If you bitch to me in a Blind Pick Normals match because I accidentally stole a CS as a support, or if I missed a smite, then you are clearly not in the right queue and should be playing ranked or Normals Draft.

Just my two-cents.

ValyrianBlade4 votes

Practice doesn't make perfect.

Perfect practice makes perfect.

Lots of people play normals to practice. Thus, they need to try-hard in normals as the practice is pointless if they don't.

Clear?

DemainaNyx4 votes

Depends on what's happening I guess. If the person is trying out a new champ or a strange build and just isn't doing well, then I'm fine with that because that's the point of normals. However, if they are just running into the enemy team and feeding, standing in your lane stealing your CS, or standing afk in base but still talking in chat, then I can understand your frustration.

Yeah, normal is less pressure, but I still want to try my best when I play. I'm not one of those people who just rolls over at 10 minutes if I die twice in lane. I will fight for the 50 minute game and make the enemy take the win from my cold, dead hand instead of just surrendering because my team keeps making some bad decision. Then again, I've had ranked games where two lanes appear to be losing (1-3 deaths) and my team wants to surrender, so learning to fight from behind in normals helps for situations like that as well.
