Well I understand that point about creating a better community, but it really seems like people are expecting instant bans even if that was a one off game for the person being reported. The algorithm is there to make sure that the person getting reported only gets banned if they are a repeat offender. Any player would be lying if they said they were not toxic for at least one game in their life. Hell, look at plat. I can assure you that after 1200 games in low plat, at least 70% of all players should be hit with a ban.

I just think that its a little sensitive to care about a toxic player so much. I mean, don't they want to be cared about if they are making such an effort to affect you? The best thing to do against a toxic player is to ignore them. Even with trolls, if everyone ignores them, then they straighten out later in the game and start playing again, unless they afk.

Idk, It may just be my old age (16) but I think that people have started to become too sensitive to words complete strangers say. I'm not saying that it doesn't suck getting insulted over the internet, but there is no way to fix that other than banning repeat offenders through the algorithm Riot has in place. The only way they can change the algorithm is if they make it easier, or more difficult to ban someone. Obviously if they want to fix things they would go with making it easier to ban someone, which is quite a scary prospect. Making it more strict would mean more things become bannable. On top of that, who's subjective opinion is being used to determine the ethics that will be enforced?

Overall, what makes the community a better place is very subjective. Riot already gives away stuff to non-toxic players, they already have a banning system, what else can they really do? A good community to me is a community that is allowed to express their opinions freely. However, I'm not against a banning system. A banning system keeps the lower ranks from being filled with toxic players. Toxic players naturally fall in elo because they are paying more attention to their typing rather than playing. It wouldn't be fair for low elo players to deal with permanent toxicity. Overall, I think the chat restrictions are a success in fixing toxic behavior. I think if they added in some cheesy role playing quotes (like in bot games) for people with chat bans it would be funny and effective. A lot of people don't know just how important a phrase like "we got late game" is. As a Diamond player, I can assure you that 70% of the game is just attitude and mentality.

Also, banning people does not necessarily make the community a better place. I'm a firm believer in reformation. Just look at norway prisons. They look like nice homes, however they are extremely effective in reforming people to become beneficial members of society. However, if you look at american prisons, an overwhelming amount of people who go to prison go straight back. Odd comparison I know, but I think it gets the point that I want to make across. Id rather have people getting reformed rather than banned, which I think Riot has been trying to do (with their "tier" punishment system).

I went on a bit of a tangent, but I think most of it was just context about what I think of the banning system as it is right now. With all that in mind, I don't think that its someones business whether a complete stranger gets banned or not. It seems like a bit of unnecessary tracking just to see a pop-up message.

bought an NA account on ebay just to log into here and upvote this! thought im the only one thinking like this. I also believe that, BECAUSE Riot is making such a big deal out of thistoxicity, people taking flaming so serious and are overall oversensitive.
