Karthus - how to Overture?

Greetings! I've recently picked up Karthus, being the underrated champion dabbler that I am. Takes a fair bit of psychogames to make the most outta his duelling potential, but I love his behind-the-scenes impact on games. I also appreciate the confusion he brings to the lane - and to the game, - cause apparently Karthus isn't encountered too often these days. That being said, it feels easy to Requiem the victory out of the late game. However, it feels confusing to Overture into the laning phase. I have witnessed so many item paths, fully effective on Karthus one way or another. I will not post my own itemization - to avoid needless criticism. I come here asking, though: what are your thought on the most effective Karthus build? Mana and CDR vs tankiness? Extra DoT vs raw power? What do you think?

It's all about sitting in the middle of a fight for as long as possible with that E on and those Q's spamming away, so I like a healthy dose of mana and tankiness.

Boots of choice + item 3003 item 3027item 3116 is your core, then pick up a defensive, either item 3102 or item 3157 with a item 3135 to up your damage.

Substitute as you see fit. If it's 15+ minutes by the time you finish your ROA, grab a item 3030 instead. If they aren't building MR, item 3089 instead of Voidstaff. A lot of juggernauts and you can grab item 3151 over voidstaff.

There are a lot of Korean Karthus's(granted some are scripters). The korean build tends to be RoA into full damage with void staff, liandries, maybe a hourglass if you need it...
