Thresh Q Hook needs LeBlanc E Treatment

diamondlight··7 votes·1,004 views

I wish I could record easily. SO many times, the hook is clearly wide of me, then it "jumps" and "hooks" me, OR it's actually just short of me, then my character "jumps" toward it and is hooked.

The visuals and the behavior do not match. I am using the visuals to gauge my dodging, yet, it's not matching so then my dodging isn't accurate. The hitbox is longer and wider than the visuals, and every time it happens, the only thing that results is ANGER. Sure, we all get hooked sometimes, but getting hooked by something that visually missed is NOT COOL.

I think the same was true for Le Blanc chains. This new patch really made it much better, no Le Blanc players have complained about the E fix, because it now matches the visual as it SHOULD. Same with skinny-ness of Leona E.

Thresh hook, actually ALL HOOKS, needs the same treatment, every one of their hit-boxes should absolutely 100% match visuals. So either fix the hit boxes, or fix the visuals.

Edit:

I added one video, but I am slow at editing:

I can't understand why this would be downvoted, hilarious.

I am Gosu's clip is even more ridiculous:

True enough, i've noticed this as well.

It will often look very off when hit by the chain.

Fucking magnets

How do they work?

his hook isnt the main issue though.

i just wish his lantern worked like zacs blobs, bards shrines etc. meaning you could destroy it by walking over it.

If your hitbox isn't too small, you can block someone from taking the lantern by standing directly on top of it btw.

And to the owner of this board - 1. Shhh that's my main you're talking about, Dont decrease the hitbox, just widen the visuals. if you decrease the hitbox 2. people won't play him much, not only because his q is easier to dodge, but also because it'll be harder to hit.

The lantern itself received a hitbox a while ago, so people won't be able to stand directly on top of it in order to limit blockin people from clicking it.

If your hitbox is big enough, say you're 6 stack cho'gath with iron elixir and lulu ultimate on you, they wont be able to click the lantern, even though it's its own hitbox.

this doesnt solve the problem though. you chase someone and a lantern goes down. you stand on it, and they walk away from you. you step off it and they can click on it.

ROFL, yeah I hear you, but really,.... it should be right, you'll still be a good Thresh without the ridonculous hitbox.

Yet again, the Hook hit box isn't the issue, it is how champion hit boxes work. In your own friggin video the hook hits VAYNE'S hitbox. The actual hook. Not even the outside of the hook's hitbox, but Vayne's own champion hitbox.

Yet again, you proved yourself wrong. Thresh and his hook aren't the issue, the champion hitbox was...and even then, it hit her arm, the actual hook itself. It only moved to the center of her hitbox for clarity sake.

Graves is a HE, obviously you didn't see the video.

And the point I made, which you lost while being so disgruntled and angry, which is also in the title, is that the Missile Width and the Visuals, should match.

That is what the LeBlanc and Leona treatment was. Fixing that. That's the point.

If the hitboxes are also an issue that's in addition to the missile width.

I understand what you mean, but i dont think you realize that there will be no gain of Thresh Mains in the first place when the champ isnt popular enough to be played by first time noobs. Alot of people will see how hard it is to hit hooks and then stop playing him because he's "overrated, and only playable by madlife cultists"

diamondlight1 votes

Maybe they'll be inspired by getting their ass handed to them by the Thresh mains and learn to play him then! :)

I am making a video right now... it's RIDICULOUS

Abyssphere1 votes

Agreed. Honestly I've seen the crazy LeBlanc chains snapping to people they've clearly missed but it's rarely happened to me. As a support main though? Clearly missed Thresh hooks latching onto me anyway are a nightmare. They fixed Leona's hook for a reason, Thresh should follow suit.

If your kit is balanced because it's reliant on a difficult to hit skillshot then that skillshot should not randomly decide to hit when you've failed.

I captured some video that I am editing together (since they are really long and like 8 GB each since I recorded for like 15 mins), I'll edit it down and add it to the post. It's ABSURD.

I have many examples over and over of COMPLETE WHIFFS, and yet, it still "hits". Even the missile display prior to casting also shows it will clearly miss, then it comes out, goes past the target, very clearly missing, yet, then "on second thought, let's cheat a little on this algorithm", and it magnetizes and moves over and grabs them.

Just wait till you see this video, it's nuts. As a side note, if you see the video, you can start maining Thresh, because you'll know exactly how to land hooks easily, the width of the actual range you have to hit a hook is so unbelievably huge, you'll never miss once you see it.

Xonra1 votes

People have shown this before in multiple videos, but the issue isn't actually the hook width, it is the funky hit boxes on some champions + the hook.

There are much worse examples of ability hitboxes, like some that visually hit, I mean full on the animation and visuals hit but somehow miss, or abilities that are so wide you try to shoot them past minion waves to hit a target, but end up somehow hitting the minion anyways because the hitbox is so big (like Morg's Q)

Some champs also have funky hitboxes that don't match up with their visuals. It is just a matter of either laziness or complete ignorance on the part of whoever is designing or in charge of fixing these specific issues.

It only gets fixed by pointing it out over and over. Yes there are so many problems like these, but that doesn't mean it should be accepted and ignored by the community as "that's how it should be, bugged."

For instance, the whole skillshot code rework they are currently doing was really fueled by "I am Gosu" making a highly visible video clearly showing how broken it was:

This video with the Ashe arrow and the issue you brought up (Thresh specifically) have nothing in common.

The issue you are saying Thresh has, isn't just Thresh. Some champs have what I would call antiquated hitboxes, like Taric, and haven't been fixed, and you are saying Thresh's Hook has too bix of a hitbox. I don't agree, but I see your point regardless.

The issue with that Ashe ult is a completely different issue to your entire point, as that is an issue of the starting point and how it checks for collision. The arrow wasn't coded with the assumption you would be shooting point blank, or really close range, so it has weird spots of "no collide" when it is first shot. Obviously that is pretty friggin terrible for whoever coded that garbage, but completely different issues.

honestly things tend to not get fixed anymore unless:

  • They cause an exploit
  • Stop working
  • Interferes with LCS

Not saying I agree with it, but riot doesn't seem to pay attention to much of anything else.

Pointing it out a ton of times on youTube, or even on the boards really, doesn't do anything but point it out to people that already know (the players). For as much as Thresh is played in the pro scene, if Riot hasn't noticed and "fixed" it (don't think it is near as bad as this thread makes it out to be), then they aren't going to

LeBlanc's issue was much worse and much more obvious, as there were times, even in the LCS, where it was obvious she missed, like shot into a bush, and it snapped onto someone to where the crowd would make noises about it, or the casters would make comments.

I've never seen any issues with Thresh that are anywhere near what you are making them out to be.

Look, all you are really saying is that I should be a pessimist. Maybe I should be, maybe nothing ever gets better. But I am happy with what I think.

Riot is busy, LOL is a complex game, not everything gets fixed, they also have grown exponentially and internationally. Of course they have problems. Have you ever been in a high-growth startup? I have, it's insane.

Here's a video, but man I have way more, it's totally ridiculous, but I have to find time to assemble it all. I am not a video editor by trade, so it takes me longer.

My video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abRmi9qKZBw

But also check out this search, might change your mind about it not being broken, since you have "never seen any issues" https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=thresh%20hook%20hitbox%20site%3Ayoutube.com

your own video actually proves you wrong, just want to point that out. The HOOK actually hits Vayne. At the point in the video where you stop it to say "this shouldn't hit" etc, the hook is inside of her arm at the very least, well inside her hit box.

The ONLY reason it looks funny is because the animation then shows the hook moving to fully align with the center of her hitbox.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, it just looks funny at first.
