Does anyone else not feel the need to play ranked?

I don't know why but I just never really feel the need to play ranked? Does anyone else feel the same or am I one of the few?

Ranked is to much of a tryhard environment and shit show full of crybabies that don't realize when it's their own fault for losing. So no, you're not alone in not wanting to play ranked. I didn't play ranked at all last season and enjoyed the game just fine.

There are usually 2 types of people who refuse to play ranked:

1.) people who don't care about some ladders. They just play the game for an hour, close it and move to something else. 2.) people who are afraid of getting flamed, people who suffer from ranked anxiety and are afraid they won't perform well etc.

So nah, you're not alone. Just make sure it's for the good reason and that you don't belong to the second category ;) Fear is never a good adviser.

i fall into the second category(I am serious).

Partially both. I don't like the people tryharding like hell and being toxic every single game, but I appreciate having generally more balanced games than in normal. Then again I just don't give a f*** for rank as long as I'm Gold at the end of the season which is literally no work and I could just start 1 week before the season ends...so yeah. I'm just not that much of a ranked player.

I'm in no category. I'm "I'll play normals untill I'm sure I will reach X rank in rankeds"

I played placements, and was placed in bronce I last season. I said, "I'll play normals until I'm sure I'll get out of bronze". I did it, and got out of bronce in 9 games (I lost one because of an afker).

Now, I'll not play rankeds untill I know I'll be platinum.

Yes, I know, maybe it will never happen. I dont care, I'm just fine perfectioning my gameplay in normals. The only thing it bothers me is when matchmaking does "matchmaking things", which is pretty more often in normals than in ranked, normals' matchmaking is a fuckfestclownfiesta.

Why would I spend my LP and fuck my elo up in ranked when I can look for perfection in my gameplay in normals for free?

Refusing to play ranked isn't the same as not feeling the need to do it. Refusing is saying no when your best friend IRL invites you to a ranked game. Not feeling the need to play ranked encompasses a whole world of reasons beyond that.

Also, fear is a great adviser in many situations. Evolution happens for a reason. The people that found a grizzly bear and decided to fight got kiled and weren't able to have kids (or the kids they had starved to death).

If you're playing League of Legends (or any other video game) and you're not a professional, you're playing it to have fun. If your fear of ranked games means you wouldn't have fun there, then why bother forcing yourself to play? In that case, you're acting out of fear of social reprobation (not wanting people to call them cowards). I mean, there are tons of people that play ranked out of that fear, or fear that being unranked (or not highly enough ranked) will cause other people to not respect them as much. I personally wouldn't say "don't play ranked if you're worried about how people perceive your rank"; I'd just stick with my always-used phrase of "play it if you have fun".

I personally enjoy the feeling of performing well, which leads to little desire to play PvP. (I can pretty much always perform well in coop.) I do play some PvP, but almost always because a friend invites me, and performing poorly with a friend happens to be more fun than performing well alone.

people who are afraid of getting flamed

Its not about afraid, just don't want to deal with everyone telling each other to kill themselves over a video game. It also seems to have more rage quits and int feeders. The increased stakes ranked has seem to make trolls more empowered to get an emotional response out of people. Its not worth my time dealing with those people.

I would love to have a competitive ladder, but the trolls have won and i'm not allowed to have nice things as a consequence.

I don't really play ranked, mostly because people would flame and report me for playing off meta and I just wanna have fun :P

Papa Slothy2 votes

ranked is fun if you like a competitive environment

Escheton2 votes

I am kinda motivated to casually climb back to gold. But thats about it. No rush, no real motive to push it beyond that. I might, but meh.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

Normally I at least find the motivation to do placements...

This season I can't even get past game 2.

Ranked used to be worth something in that being in a set division actually equated to some measure of skill, game knowledge, and overall commitment and dedication. Now, not so much.

I know a ton of people who avoid ranked like the plague just because they don't care about it. I was like that myself for a long time before deciding I would use ranked to check my skill in comparison to other players which is why I play it about 30-50% of the time now.

420 grams1 votes

I don't, but I'm thinking about only playing ranked from now on except for trying new champions.

9 X1 votes

Definitely not right now.

If I get many more matches like I have been lately, I'd just be getting demoted because I play champions that can't carry a bunch of dead weight.

Cocho1 votes

I like ranked because its a seemingly endless ladder, that you can only climb by improving and playing games.

If you just play for fun, then I can see why you wouldn't play ranked. That queue is cancer lol, I hate all my teammates, and the enemy team, but thats what makes it fun. I must escape the monkeys in the bottomless pit of elo hell.

NotCounter1 votes

i don't because i barely even play summoner's rift, and it seems pointless to play ranked over normals if you aren't ambitious to actually go somewhere in the elo chain and become genuinely good at the game. that doesn't apply to me at all so playing twisted treeline, aram, and special modes makes far more sense

Head Connoisseur1 votes

I play ranked up until I hit gold 5 for the season rewards, then I don't touch it again. I like playing random things on a whim, rather than be forced into the meta.

Supreme Senpai691 votes

I'm not some conspiracy theorist but for some reason I win a game then lose a game in ranked and I feel useless. Because I can get super fed and lose cuz my team goes full retard. Or I can feed my ass off and win because my team carries me. Feels like my team is NEVER my MMR.

In norms? I was on a 10 game win streak. I think Ranked tries to force a near-50% winrate on you via MMR disparities.

Legacy Hydralpha1 votes

I've never really been that kind of player, and don't find enjoyment in ranked. I've heard a lot of people say ranked is a waste of time, but I wouldn't really know since I've never gotten too into it. I just want to hit gold and get rewards.

SmileInABox1 votes

I feel the need to play ranked if I want a remotely competitive game. At my elo, Normal's are full of people who play the game like once a year or are under level 30.

I Am Never Lucky1 votes

I only play ranked because normals seem useless and this season i got silver and just cant live with that. Every day i wake up and think "gosh im silver". Really makes me sad. Last season i climbed up to plat 1 and now i cant win a single game in silver because of reasons you all know haha. item 3070

I play ranked,, I mean im kinda bad at it and only Bronze 1.... but still

Pakku Ito 1 votes

I do like rankeds and I do like playing them, but in the last few days it's just been hell for some reason. It's like once you get near promo/in promo Riot decides to rank you with players that have a way lower mmr than you do and expects you to carry them :/ . I really hope there will be some change in ranked matchmaking someday .-.

Based on how salty I can be in normals and ARAM, I don't think those around me could handle the potential salt levels if I were to play ranked.

Sonasaurous1 votes

Ranked isn't a big deal to me. As I get older, I get busier and I usually only play about three games a week--usually on the same day. Life happens. So if I can only play a few games a week, I'd rather play a norm and have fun than play a ranked and be stressed about it.

fart ninjas1 votes

I have been considering playing ranked because I'd like to have the boarder on the load screen and if I can get up to Gold by end of the season, I could possibly get a free skin. But hearing about all the salt in ranked, thinking I might want to gather a premade of nice people or mute everyone from the start. Just tell them to ping if they need me.

AcidTheWarlock1 votes

Nope. Never played, never want to.

Ulquiorra9951 votes

Used to play a lot. Given up over the course of last 3 seasons, falling from platinum to gold and eventually silver. I play the game to have fun, and with how frustrating ranked has become it's just not worth it, even for ranked rewards.

Jenks31 votes

I'm fine with playing normals to practice new champs and builds. However, it's usually short lived because 2-3 games in I will get Attack Speed Nasus Support (Actually happened) and it will remind me why I play ranked.

Kitten of Evil1 votes

I got myself up to Gold V in Season 5, and have happily played no more than 5 ranked games since then. It just doesn't appeal to me, because I play the game for fun, and often with friends--some of whom are way better than I am and some of whom are way worse.

MetalGearTeemu1 votes

I play my 10 games every season for gold and skin. otherwise why would I invest 40 minutes of constant queue dodging to try and get a game that actually starts, only to have a guy DC immediately when he expected the enemy jungler to be the top laner and get a remake because his runes arent optimal

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Never felt the need for rank; but considering matchmaking has only gotten worse regarding smurfs & stilted setups, may as well out of curiosity.

Spoofghoul1 votes

havent felt the need since mid season 5

NoxiousDragoon1 votes

AT least to me, ranked doesn't feel that bad. Normals usually feels the same as ranked. However, in norms, you will run eventually run into one of those try hard ranked players who still REALLY want to win. [zombie-brand-clap]

King Odin1 votes

I personally don't like League games which don't challenge me so I usually stay away from ranked flex and normals unless I'm playing with friends. I just love to be against people of equal footing.

watch the bush1 votes

Ranked? More like the game itself. I remember even when normals were fun to play. This game just gets shittier and shittier each year.

Skias1 votes

I already got to gold, so I've got my skin for the season. This meta is ass though. Makes ranked super bad.

Venomar1 votes

Sometimes I want to (haven't even finished placements) for the sake of having consistent similarly skilled players matched against me. But every time I go into ranked I get the most toxic clowns imaginable and the games are filled with what can only be describe with "people playing by slapping thier dick on the keyboard".

Conversely I get matched with anywhere form high gold to high silver players consistently in normals with a random plat or a d5 sprinkled in here and there and have a much better game quality even if it isn't super duper try hard mode.

So I can either play ranked and try to climb silver, or God forbid Bronze, or just play normals and already be playing with decent players similar to my skill level. So why bother?
