If you want to nerf Morgana in the support role, you are doing it wrong.

TL;DR I want to be able to play Morgana in the mid lane, as she was originally intended. I don't really care for support Morgana and agree that she might be a bit too strong.

Morgana doesn't use Tormented Soil for damage in the support role -- she uses it to tag people for assists and to spend Spellthief's Edge stacks.

By removing early damage from Tormented Soil, Morgana will be pushed in more easily in the mid lane. Her wave clear was already abysmal, taking many seconds to work whereas other champions can instantly clear a wave. If you are against a champion that instantly cleared waves, then chances are the enemy minions would walk off of your soil forcing you to tank the minion wave and spend another 130 mana dropping another patch of soil.

The best way to nerf Morgana's supportive capabilities is to remove the interaction between Spellthief's Edge and Tormented Soil. Make it so that it doesn't spend all three stacks in one cast. That way, Morgana spends more mana constantly dropping soil OR has to blow her binding, providng a significant moment of weakness for the next 11 seconds.

An alternative to the above can be buffing Black Shield's cooldown to 15 seconds, giving it an offensive use (aka, use it on an enemy to spend the cooldown and do some damage/effect.) Have the cooldown doubled to 30 seconds if you use it to shield an ally. The shield duration can also be shorted to 3 or 4 seconds, if needed.

Nerfing her tormented soil damage is pretty much the least effective way to hurt her support game. I'd much rather see her Binding spamming cut down on, maybe increase the mana cost and give a refund on champ or minion hit.

When I play Morgana, and I drop my soil, and am CLEARLY farming that wave...

Then my allies zap the whole wave before my Soil can kill them...

Stealing the minions I was CLEARLY trying to farm...

I start seeing blood, then.

Morg has a 3 sec binding with a hitbox the size of a refrigerator and we're sitting here debating about tormented soil and her spellshield?

All this talk of Soil procing all 3 stacks of spellthief...

Only if she drops the patch and then hits you with a Q. Most bot lane (most) are on their toes enough to step out of that asap, or at least dodge the Q and eat the soil damage. I can think of way worse scenarios.

And if she does land both? I'd be more worried about the ADC than the 15 gold you just gave her.

Good luck on convincing Riot to keep Mid Morgana. Same thing happened to Lulu, but in reverse. They nerfed her top/mid role, it hit support too, we complained, but Riot said "She is still viable in support." and proceeded to not give two fucks.

Riot doesn't want to "enforce meta blah blah blah" on champions, but they apply this philosophy at their own discretion.

Edit: Here is link to one of a few discussion I had with Statikk on my precious Lulu.

Its a jungle nerf.. if you dont believe me .. try her out in the jungle before the nerf happens.

Nerfing the level 1 soil is just plain stupid. It doesn't do much damage at all right now.

I would like to see Morgana go mid instead of support, because she provides a bit too much for what she does. I would like to note that Morgana was originally meant to be a support, but was eventually taken mid.

Was she originally intended for mid? I know from release onwards she was an extremely popular support, and usually only middling popular as a hard mage

As someone who loves playing solo lane morg, I feel you op...

To me this seems more like a nerf to mid morgana then support morgana,

Probably since she is one of the safest mids in game and riot is trying to make it harder for her. I used to play morgana support before it was cool and i played her mid during season 2.

She is a great champion, but she still isn't a carry champion and sad they are nerfing her.

as a big morg mid player I could clear casters with 1 w at lvl 3 this is a huge wave clear nerf mid

Does seem like a questionable change -- don't see anyone complaining about black soil's damage or Morgana mid in general. The stupidest part about her kit is blackshield, which offers too much utility without building any carry items.

What about buffing the damage towards minions by 50%? That solves your pushing problem while support morgana doesn't want to be clearing waves (atleast not early game).

If Torment Soil was the problem the easier fix would easily be change the cost of it from 70/85/100/115/130 mana to +40 Per level(Hence 110/125/140/155/170) (then apply a 10 Mana refund on killing minions with Soil) - less spamable -> less gold gain ability without killing off mid Morgana(well kills off mid until she hits lvl 5) This implies that spellthief edge is a problem( if it is one, I personally don't care, I havn't seen a Morgana support in awhile so I'm not sure how much this effects the game)

If Dark binding is the problem then decreasing max range on Q or rescale the root duration from 2 / 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.75 / 3 to something like 1.50 / 1.75 / 2 / 2.5 / 3. Making a CD refund on hit(Thresh Treatment) isn't as effective since anyone who plays Morgana effectly won't change anything. (the spike is from 3-5, and not 1-2 thus reducing extremely early snowballing)

Or if the random problem is the Black Shield, decreasing the duration from 5->4 and increasing the shield or other way around(decrease power of shield to increase duration) There are ways to effectively nerf someone without having to completely butcher them. You just need to identify whats the problem.

And all of this is implied IF Morgana needed a nerf to begin with.

There are 2 changes that could be made to balance support Morg.

1.) Make it not count every tick of Tormented Soil for Spellthief's Edge. As it stands, you absolutely cannot stop her from getting every single stack of Spellthief's all game because she gets 3 instantly before you can even react.

2.) Reduce the width of her Q. I understand the length is integral to the rest of her kit so it needs to stay somewhat, but that thing is just too damn long.
