Anivia Main's Questions

Hi - S2 Anivia Main here

I'm not sure if you all have noticed, but there's been a bit of a mobility creep going on, especially with irelia's rework, and zoe's existence. I've been ok with this, since most of the time, if I'm good enough, I can use anivia (who has a low movement speed, the slowest projectile in the game, and the lowest base health) to make people stand still long enough to kill them. Late game especially, where my icicle of doom deals upwards of 1000 damage.

However, there are issues.

Honestly, I don't mind the health/movement speed issues. I sign up for those when I lock in anivia - I get the egg and like 10 different forms of cc as compensation.

However,Anivia's wall is an issue: it used to be pretty solid - if someone was running at you, you can make them stop. If someone is channeling and you need them to stop now, you can. if you needed to stop someone from getting away, you can (especially in the jng. oh those tasty walls). And if you needed to facecheck a bush/dragon, you can throw a wall up and check it, without dragging your slow butt over there.

Nowadays, however, it doesn't work like that. First, just about everyone has a dash/blink/gofast that can pretty much ignore the wall. Some, like kat/kass/talon/new irelia (I think), can basically ignore the wall entirely. I can still tell juggernauts to frick off, but otherwise it doesn't help much (unless I'm doing a tasty egg/tower/wall bait). Finally, there was that 'qol' change where they took the vision off her wall. That wasn't a qol change. That was a nerf.

My point is that the wall, while still being helpful, is not nearly helpful enough (in my humble opinion), and thus could stand another 'qol' change. I have two ideas, and one request.

Request - pls give the vision back. If kogmaw can have a vision ability (R) on like a 6 sec cd, aniva could do with one on a 20ish sec cd.

ideas: 1:make the wall impassable, azir style. Sure, blinks (gdi kat) would still work, but at least it would help against a lot of people (xin, ali, those bois).

2: make the wall do some bear trap style thing when it forms, that pushes people away (more than it does already). sure, it would delay the cast time, but I thing the push back would be an interesting mechanic to play around.

I would love to hear from the other 4 birb mains on this board. preferably a high elo person who I can then badger for tips.

This post is genuinely not meant to bash you based on your rank but it's important to talk about given that you're asking for buffs to your main.

If you're silver you have plenty of room to improve your gameplay. You shouldn't be saying that the champ you play needs a buff. Even if they buffed her it would make an insignificant difference on your ranking. Like as a silver level player you're not making full use of the champion, not even close. So if we put some arbitrary numbers on it maybe that can illustrate what I mean.

If a silver 2 player uses 10% of Anivia's potential, and then Anivia gets a buff that makes her like 10% stronger, the silver 2 player will only make use of 10% of that buff, which is 1% relative to Anivia's previous potential. So now maybe the buffed Anivia = 110% of pre-buff, but you = 11% of pre-buff Anivia. So basically nothing has changed and you're still stuck in silver.

So instead of thinking, "What can Riot do to buff Anivia", you should be thinking "What can I do to buff myself?"

Dude Anivia has been one of the most broken, if not the most broken mid laner for months now.

Anivia buffs are the last thing we need.

I like the first idea but not the second.

Personally, I find that her egg never actually saves me because it takes way too long to revive and you get lower defenses while in the egg. It's just too easy to kill you will you're waiting to revive.

I would personally like to see the revive happen faster and the defenses while in egg form increased.

My thoughts as an Anivia main since Season 3

She is fine the way she is, her wall being easy to get around for mobility champions (or flash) is designed to be one of her weaknesses against those types of champions. If you made her wall impassable then she would be way to strong and even if you were to increase the CD or shorten the range, it's still to strong and honestly having a range decrease or increased CD on her wall might not even make it worth the trade off.

Mobility champions are really annoying to face as Anivia, and playing passive is basically what you have to do to survive those match ups. Say for example, Kassadin who I consider to be the biggest counter to Anivia. Since he already gets reduced magic damage + builds RoA + gets a shield on his Q, he can tank through Anivia's damage. His Q being able to stop Anivia's ult and Kassadin could just ult out of Anivia's ult (or away from her Q). To even have a chance at this match up, you'd have to play passive and wait until they jump on you. The moment you try to go aggressive against them and miss your Q, is the moment you lose the trade (and possibly your egg/life). So you'd have to bait out his jump first, usually with using your ult on him and wall behind him....

  1. He can either just ult away from you and just lose the hp from the initial ult.
  2. He can use his Q if he has fast enough reflexes to cancel your ult before you get it empowered for an E
  3. Jump out of ult and to you knowing you used your ult + wall thinking you are down half your kit but then hit with a point blank Q + E and you walk away winning the trade.

It's just an example but a lot of other mobility champions are exactly the same way like Leblanc where you need to bait out her distortion on to you and land a point blank stun. Ekko might also fall in this category but he is a bit of a different case.

The point is, these match ups are possible to deal with (besides for Fizz...Outside of getting Banshee's Veil, I feel there is nothing else Anivia can do lol) but if you tried to make her wall impassible, it would make her so much more harder to deal with and much harder to counter. Which would then reduce some of her weaknesses and she would be overpowered and would get nerfed.

Anivia has been generally fine balance wise, she may be sleeper op but she is not obnoxious to the point that everyone wants her nerfed or anything but she does have a lot of people who hate her. She is one of those champions that does very well, but usually only played by her mains and because of that she looks so much better because of it. She was even played in LCS a few times in NA and EU this split and most of the time did terrible or really didn't offer anything to the team.

tldr: Anivia is fine the way she is, her wall being easy to get around is designed to be a weakness for her against mobility champions who are basically her counters. I would rather not see her get any massive buffs (or any strong qol changes) that would risk her getting super strong and then nerfed because of it. She is fine the way she is right now, she can be strong at times and when played right but there are ways to get around her kit and kill her.
