I am asking because I didn't pay attention recently and now after Runes being changed I can't find what are the replacements for Magic Pen runes. Basically, number months ago Magic Pen was also removed from one of the items, if I am remember correctly, Banshee's Veil?
Looks like magic pen was hit hard by nerf hammer, unless I am missing something.
Brutalitops011 votesFirst off, you are not remembering correctly. Magic Pen was on Abyssal Scepter, but it has now been reworked into Abyssal Mask, which is a tank item, and you get Banshee's Veil as a damage item instead.
No new pen items were added, and while I wouldn't mind a new one, Void Staff is still really good for that front because it's % pen. Most AD damage dealers can't reliably build Black Cleaver or have better, more important things to buy, so it's not a priority for them and that's the AD equivalent. Plus, in the new runes system, there's just more damage in general, so I don't think that more flat pen is particularly needed.

But most tanks still build Abyssal Mask, and it causes enemies in an AoE around the person with it to take 10% more magic damage, which is similar to what the old Abyssal Scepter did, and, if you weren't a pretty close range mage or an assassin, you weren't getting that boost from Abyssal Scepter either.
Since a lot of tanks build it, and you probably weren't getting the boost before, you actually probably have MORE pen than you did before, without being charged the gold or taking up an item slot for it.
