Well don't do that in ranked. Ranked is ranked, regardless of whether or not the season has ended.

And have you tried this off-meta pick in normals a few times to make sure it works, or are you just hopping into ranked on a champ/role combination that you've never played before? In my experience, players claiming to play "off-meta" picks fall into the second category.

I don't play ranked usually. But if I did, it'd ONLY be after trying a character+build, even meta OP ones. Because if you have ZERO experience with a champion, I would consider it a troll pick no matter what because you won't know jack about what you're doing.

Unless it's WW jungle. Pretty sure a 2-year old could do well with him.

Good, then you are not an asshole. Many people who support "off-meta" picks are just trolls that fuck with people by picking shit like teemo jungle or other such nonsense.

Another valid point, though: if you are picking really off-meta, you are forcing your team to synergize with something that they may not fully understand, thus putting your entire team at a disadvantage. Make sure to consider this when picking off-meta champs or champs for roles other than the ones they were intended to fill.

i dont play much ranked to begin with. And even if I do, I stick to a strict pool of my level 6/7 champions.

I appreciate your discipline. You are the kind of player that actually deserves to play ranked based on your attitude towards maximizing your contribution and playing to win. Many people in this convo do not understand these basic concepts.

When I say off meta,I'll tell you what I mean.

I play a lot of amumu jungle in ranked, but one game I ended up getting mid.

Now, I dont have many mid champs that im comfortable with in ranked, + my team was full squishy. The enemy laner was a melee assasin, so I said: hey, let me go amumu mid, I can fill the roll of a tank, cs fairly well because the enemy is melee. And we did end up winning the game, with me having the most kill participation. That is what I mean by off meta.

I am not refering to something like soraka jungle, rammus adc, etc.

But rather something like ; Quinn adc, malphite support, irelia jungle. Things that can potentially work in the right team comp or matchup.

The difference between you and this troll is that this kind of communication and team synergy was absolutely absent from the troll, at least from what I can see. Also, it seems that your team didn't object to your logic, but you had better believe that if the guy actually got banned for trolling, people objected to him playing singed support. There is such a stark difference between these two cases that it is almost irrelevant to compare them.

theres a difference between picking something that might work, and picking something, and even playing fine throughout the game, but still costing the whole game because that champion played in that way, in that role and position, is stupid. it doesnt matter if you go 0/0/0 in the end game, if you still end up losing because you didnt bring anything to the team, you just trolled your team and you're an idiot and an asshole for doing so. of course only idiots and assholes would do this in the 1st place, only people who DONT wanna feed would supposedly want to "try" something that could be strong, and still make it work because they know how to best utilize their possible win conditions

What if you are an adc, who your support is mf and keeps taking your cs, and your jg is graves who shows up to clear your cs waves (not gank). Assuring you are lucky if you got 30cs after 20mins into game. At this point should you even care if you win or just go kill cs till death?
