A Nautilus Buff Idea

When it comes to Nautilus, I honestly look at him and wonder where he went wrong, because to me Sejuani seems like a better Nautilus at the moment. Both have a gapclosing Q, except while Nautilus's won't drag him if it misses or only drags him to a wall, Sejuani's is guaranteed movement and gets her over walls. Both have a W that increased area of effect damage, but Nautilus is entirely reliant on his shield being intact. Then both have a slowing and damaging E, except Sejuani's is guaranteed to hit and technically has a longer range, so long as you tagged their team with frost. And while Nautilus's ultimate can pick out a member of their team and be very disruptive, Sejuani trumps it with the potential to absolutely demolish the competition and the teamfight by stunning the entire squad. She simply seems like a better Nautilus to me, so I started thinking what exactly would make Nautilus his own thing again?

First of all, what do we want Nautilus to be? I dunno about you guys, but to me and apparently quite a few other people, we want the Nautilus from the cinematic. An unstoppable force of vengeance that's just coming for you. So how do we create that? I don't recommend touching his Q or E, unless it's to nerf the damage for balance. Instead, I'd like to focus on his passive and his W. As it is, Nautilus's teamfight requires him to tag as many enemies as possible to disrupt the team, but in a meta with so many dash heavy champions or champions that can escape easily (Graves, Sivir (plus spellshield so you cant even ult or anchor her), Lucian, Rumble Shield, Lissandra, Azir, Kha'Zix, Rengar, Janna, Jarvan, etc.) it's almost completely impossible to perform his job.

What I suggest, is to allow the diver to enjoy CC immunity, similar to olaf, while his shield is active. He would also enjoy 20% increased movement speed to let him stick to certain targets and actually do the job he's meant to do. It will also help him in a thematic standpoint knowing that this unstoppable force of vengeance is going to chase you down. And no matter how many caitlyn traps, blitz hooks, silences, and flame chompers he walks through, he's still coming. (Even if it doesn't last forever!) In a teamfight, this will force your team to coordinate. Either avoid the Nautilus, or take out his shield and remove the threat.

The other option for his W buff that I have thought of is the addition of a Sion-Style detonation. This would slow targets by 25% and would damage them for 5% of their maximum health. This gives Nautilus something else to offer in a teamfight, but the reason I don't put this the furthest forward is because it's a Sion-Style detonation. "If a champion has an axe, no other champion can swing an axe that way." Right Riot?

I would love for others to give me some thoughts, because I absolutely love Nautilus and Sejuani as champions, and I don't want Sejuani to just be a bigger and better version of Nautilus.

I like Nautilus where he's at though. The speed boost seems like a bad idea if you ask me since naut is this lumbering titan. His role fits best as a tanky buiser right now, and while sejuani says 'let me get close, I'll mess you up' Naut says 'GET THE HELL OVER HERE I WILL KEEP YOU IN ONE PLACE THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM THE DEPTHS!' and by then yyou've killed anyone not tanky since you should build enough damage to scare them with your combo and kill them with a few w aas.

In short, he's strong and I like where he's at. He does his job well and is very much like the naut in the cinematic; tanky enough to keep coming after you even after taking a Graves ult to the face, but with enough ap damage that you scare anyone squishy.

I was thinking about this very subject Sunday and I tried to think of when Naut is stronger in the game than Sej. Naut's passive is an early ganking mechanic without equal. The root makes lanes win. While Sejuani can slow them, Naut roots them, and then if they flash away it's anchors away and they go no where. That to me is where Naut is stronger, but both these champs are amazing tanking / ganking champions.

For me, it comes down to team composition - if you need more AOE i.e. the enemy team is 3 melee's and 2 ranged, Sej would be better to tank advantage of bunching, whereas 3-4 ranged and 1 melee where I see being more common lately Naut would be king as he can isolate and disrupt.

i agree Naut is under powered

What I suggest, is to allow the diver to enjoy CC immunity, similar to olaf, while his shield is active.

this is an idea i like.

ive also seen someone suggest that his **W on hit should not be tied to his shield ** another idea i like

My thoughts on Nautilus is that all his dmg and skill are in a good place overall. the only adjustment that could help him be the terror of the deep would be to split his W . Make his aoe AA as a passive, the guy is swinging a massive anchor. and place the dot dmg and shield as an active on his W.

First of all, what do we want Nautilus to be?

if we want nautilus to be a tank he needs a rework aimed at his capability to take up damage without dealing much of it if we want naut to be a bruiser like he is now but make his kit actualy fit that playstyle he needs a rework aimed at his fighting capabilities, mainly scalings base damage and reliability of his damage (thats mainly w) on top of scaling with certain items to adjust his power (triforce naut oh boiii)

either way his kit isnt in the spot it should be to perform its role this problem is a relic of the past where damage dealing champions who couldnt trade with renekton couldnt also live in the jungle so champions like nautilus had a place riot called them tanks just because they are durable but they never realy manned up that role, they were always durable fighters without any specific tool for manipulating damage like braum has now

also next problem his kit will face is the lane its adjusted to as he is adjusted to jungle now because he was there before his kit will also suffer from needing mechanics that dont fit him thematicaly (mobility needed for ganks), dredge line was made to give him ganks not to feel like an anchor throw

personaly i think that nautilus needs more of a relaunch than a rework, since his role is dead (old style tank), and the modern game ballance does not consider him to be viable anywhere (fighter junglers compete with his cc while also having damage to pull that gank off, on top of clearing faster and safer) on top of his thematic not being propertly defined nor expressed in game

he just needs some work at his core
