Apparently there's some in game voice chat testing going on.

League of Legends Korea Confirms In-Game Voice Chat Under Internal Review

Personally, I don't think adding in an in game voice chat (jeez, that's a weird sentence) is a good direction for league. Now I'll admit, I haven't been playing league for the longest time (I started playing whenever the heck bard came out for reference.) but still, I don't think voice chat will help league evolve any further.

My Concern: Let's address the elephant in the room, league is known for having a pretty, uncivil, community. And with that in mind one of the only things that's kept this game from reaching unbearable levels of toxicity is the ban system, criticize it all you want its there and it works. Why? because its "easy" to monitor, its easy for a computer program or whatever to monitor the players in game behavior through what they build, what they say in chat, etc. The problem arises when voice chat is thrown in. Voice chat is extremely hard to place bannable restrictions on because I don't think there's a computer program in Riot's arsenal that can analyse speech and seek out the insulting/racist/homophobic speech out there. Unless they hire a LARGE staff of real human beings to monitor all chat logs for all games and ban people accordingly (which sounds like one of those "loose faith in humanity" type jobs.) then I don't think this system will be very good at banning those people Riot doesn't want to see in their community.

The Counter-Argument: Now its not like their adding in the voice chat just because all the cool kids on the block have it now. There is at least some reason to have it, and that reason is teamwork. It's hard to talk, or type, strategy to people while in the midst of farming or a team fight, and pings aren't that effective, though they help. As stated in the article the reason they would have a voice chat is to help people literally talk strategy.

The Solution: Here is my humble solution to this problem. Make an in-client third party chat system! (Que trumpets) What I picture is an option on the client where you can invite players on your friends list to a voice chat party (think xbox live or skype). This way the chat system can be used by people you trust and this system isn't forced on anyone who's shy like me and dosn't want to talk to a bunch of randos (sorry randos, i'm sure your all wonderful people).

TL:DR? If Riot wants to implement a in-game voice chat system, then I think they should make it like xbox live and skype (where you can invite people you want). And not force it on anyone else.

That's the thing tho, I don't know if its going to be in every game like COD or if its going to be optional. We (I) need some more details on how this will work.

It'll be as optional as CSing. You will basically be forced to if you want to play the game.

If you've played this game at all with voice chat, you know things get called out in chat all the time without being pinged (or being pinged by a generic Blue Dot). Right now people are more or less in the habit of pinging everything, but that'll go the way of being able to play every role before jumping into Ranked. A year or two after voice chat gets added you'll be completely lost if you're not using it.

If you can, perform an experiment. Play with 4 teammates, all of you on voice chat, for several games back to back to back. That should let everyone get use to voicing what they need to. In the final game, mute everyone in your voice chat and see how lost you feel.

you can play the game perfectly without talking to people as we speak:??? so adding voice chat wouldnt change that at all if you opted out of it.

Mute all chat and all pings (that's on the PBE now). That's what you'll be signing up for by opting out of voice chat. Can you honestly tell me you wouldn't be negatively impacted by teammates not pinging vital info?

look at csgo, one of the most toxic communities ever.

it has voice chat, and it ends up being one of the funniest things ever, people do crazy shit on mic and its actually untilting when ur getting ass blasted but have that one guy doing funny shit on his mic. and if someone is being annoying on mic then mute them simple as that.

That is true, but in league you need to communicate somehow for strats and stuff. And if you mute someone in voice chat, they may not respond to you in the typey type chat so their's still that communication barrier. Also not all people like people ass blasting them if you catch my drift.

thats what pings are for.

How long do you think it'll be before people stop the habit of pinging everything because they can say it?

We lost people being capable of playing every role in Ranked in just over a year. New players won't have pings on muscle memory, they'll use generic Blue Dot pings and say what they mean. How good is your Blue Dot interpretation, because that ping in the water could be "there's a pink ward there", or "their jungler is there", or it could be "look at the duck, it's right there!"

Can i say the unpopular elephant in the room? Lols not more toxic than any other video game community out there. Sure theres a few games that have non toxic communities but most of them have a much older player age like old socom. The only reason lols community is perceived more toxic is riot takes active steps to try and ban toxic players rather than just let everything go.

Also they stated in multiple articles talking about voice chat stating its going to be an opt in voice chat. Literally google lol voice chat or lol voip and you can read a multitude of articles from riot about this.

Also even if people are toxic to you why does it matter there anonymous people youll never meet or talk to in real life. There words should be irrelevant to you. And most toxic video gamers would never dare say half the shit theyll say in league to your face because they were probably bullied as kids.

The voice chat idea is cool you get to connect with randoms in your random game. but VOICE CHAT is in no way a REPLACEMENT FOR PRE-GAME CHATTING COMMUNITY. This game becomes a grind because the only way to talk to other players is through joining a game
