A balanced community: NA vs LAN

This thread will be geared towards gameplay... More specifically, the community.

Back in June or July, I was playing a lot of league due to it being summer. Even then, this community was an absolute nightmare. Almost every single game had somebody throwing a fit or cursing up a storm. It was no fun, not at all. It was at this point I decided to transfer to LAN:

  1. Lower ping
  2. More stable servers (rarely had packet loss/lag spikes)
  3. Language barrier!

And so I did - I transferred to LAN, learned the language, and just played. I stayed there up until 8 days ago before transferring back here to NA. And I'll admit, transferring to LAN was the greatest decision I've made in a long time. I seriously enjoyed it. The community was 100x better. They didn't really speak that much, and I didn't have to deal with afk's, flamers, etc. I mean you had one here and there, but that's just competitive gameplay for you. It honestly never brought me down, even though I was fully aware of what they were saying meant.

And then I came back to NA...

Ranked is okay-ish here. People die a lot less haha. It seems that at Plat 1+ people don't really talk much, just focus on winning. That's nice. That's what I like. Just casual talking and focusing on the game. You go below Plat 1? That's where it gets bad.

Practicing in blind/draft normal games is an absolute disgrace. I get paired with Silver/Gold players (on the low end - I made a friend in Master the other day through draft pick, I play with all ranks), and I honestly feel for the people who have to climb through that. I honestly cannot describe the amount of toxicity I've seen from Gold level players in these 8 short days. I've been told to kill myself twice in the past two days. Like, are you serious? You die twice in lane, you're getting ripped apart verbally. You ask your team to meet you at drag, and they continue farming, so you say "where is everyone?" All you get is "shut up you're so bad you're the reason we're losing"

I don't get it. The only way to enjoy this game is on mute, and what fun is a team game if everyone is muted? What are your thoughts on the persistent toxicity within this community?

TL;DR High plat and above doesn't talk so much, but really anything Plat V and below? That's the most toxic I've seen.

it makes it hard to win. it makes it hard to improve. it puts up a criticism barrier that once up any well meaning helpful tips or criticisms are met with hostility. and thus the mythical elohell becomes very real and a self fulfilling prophecy.
