His laning phase is going to be crap if you can zone him. Think about it this way, in order to actually land an auto on you, he has to step out from behind minions, if you're running the kind of supports that heavily punish that, it's not a problem.

Most ADCs have a range advantage AND an escape. You can always disengage graves, and often times you can poke him without ramifications. Sure if he all ins you with leona AND you're not inside your minions, making it hell to land an auto it a likely win for him, but those are ideal circumstances. You beat him the same you be beat any other champion in lane, avoid those ideal circumstances. It means actually playing different based on him and who his support is. Just cause you can't tread him like every other ADC doesn't mean he's the most broken thing ever.
Also, he can't help but push lane while he's farming, which sucks for him anyways until he has the AD to blow waves(and the fat ass mana pool to support it). So, farm under your tower and ward for dives.
A lot of the meaty initiators heavily punish graves for the position he needs to be in to succeed. Most ADCs can hang back in optimal range and play it safe from there. He can't auto attack past a meatwall, and if your meatwall happens to have CC/Shields or some kind of sustain you'll be fine.
