Season 5 favored champs
This might read like something you have read before if you have read one of the long feedback threads about the favoring of ganking champions. This is not a complaint thread, but it was motivated by an unsettling feeling that many champions I want to play will not be viable this season.
THE BACKGROUND (for this thread)
I was playing Teemo. <Ladies, throw them kisses in the air for our beloved Teemo>. So, anyways, while tempting a Darius to feed me top, and doing a damn good job of dominating him, the boost to minions assisting caught my attention. It happened the same in the previous game versus Yi top. Let me explain.
THE CRUX (of this situation)
The damage received from the minions was about equal to the damage I did to Darius (or Yi) each time I moved passed my minions. It is as if the devs tried to even out the damage. The only times I noticed minion damage not having considerable effect is when Yi or Darius (or Jax or Lee junglers) used a brief high damage ability. The significance of this hit me the last time chasing Darius to his turret.
THE POINT (of this post)
Only champions that take more than one second to kill are actually being fought against by the AI of the game. The game is literally choosing its victors according to an ability to avoid this "more reliable minion damage" (a.k.a. a gank champ); meaning bursting down an enemy in less than one second and dashing/leeping/blinking away. Conversely, every champion that must endure the AI had better have enough defense to shrug it off. Some will say it has always been like this, but, no, it has not been like this. Otherwise, the change to enhance minions assisting wouldn't have been implemented.
THE LOSERS (in champ select)
...
... [add non-burst + non-dash + non-tank champ]
THE MESSAGE (to players)
The bottom line is that players are being nudged to adopt the same gameplay for every lane. Sit behind minions. Stay near a turret. Don't venture out unless you can kill instantly and return instantly. Ultimately, there is less fighting, which becomes less of an interesting skill competition. The favor goes, not only to champions, but to players that accept the favored champions and happily adopt favored gameplay. Who are these players? Weekend ganksters? Noobs? Immature bratlings with limited attention? My intent is not to be rude, but blatantly honesty. Who are these players? The other side of that question is: who are the players being disfavored (a.k.a. disregarded/dishonored)? If your champ is on the loser list it quite possibly is you.
THE PURPOSE
As was stated, this is not a complaint thread, although it has had that gist. It is a negative feeling thing - to be forced to accept change that seems unwarranted. The fact that this game has helped to push esports to be bigger is an aggravator. We want esports to grow. We want esports games to grow. When it grows into something other than what we expected, what then? How do you feel about it?
TLDR: --- intentionlly left blank --- Read it all or leave bro.
