TLDR: Riot must fix the Draft picking system for players, even if they are parties of 5. Unranked-Silver players should never have to vs. against someone as high as Platinum V.

In attempts to uncover this seemingly mysterious and problematic concept, I want to direct you to my most recent game taken place on October 14. It's a premade 5-man group with my friends and I, will skill levels ranging from Unranked to Silver II. I was playing as Gnar, and the match ended in a loss for us.

This brings me to my question I need an answer to: How does the draft pick system work, and how do Unranked-Silver players get paired against Platinum players?

I've asked this question to many different friends and fellow players and opponents, and the inability to provide a straightforward answer is shocking. Sure, there may be a lot of ELO math involved, but there must be something not working here.

Under no circumstances will it be a fair and balanced game to have a Platinum V paired against a team made up of Unranked-Silver players.

Now that I've boiled it down to my main concern, let me emphasize on a few other points that I believe support my claim:

  • True, we are a 5-man premade; however, they could have been a party as well. Plus, their team ranges from Unranked-Platinum.
  • The amount of games for all Unranked players in game are very low, most of which aren't even recorded. If their summoner level says anything, this ranges from Lvl. 25 - Lvl. 45
  • So now we are left with the more experienced players: Platinum V, Silver 1, and Bronze 3 VS. Silver 2, Silver 2, Bronze 1. Still imbalanced. This is not an episode of Nightblue3's "1v5 Challenger" or whatever it may be.

Some have mentioned the fact that ELO does not come into consideration in Draft pick. Whether or not this is true, I believe it should; how else are you going to get a fair and balanced game? What should have happened, had the Platinum V been partied with anyone else on their team, is to be paired against people of the same or near a Platinum 5/Gold 1 ELO.

Just because we are a 5-man group does not mean opponent rankings need to be doubled.
