Quinn's auto attack animation needs to be fixed (with video!)

FlashnFuse··80 votes·4,550 views

It's far to easy to cancel Quinn's auto attacks while orb walking. The major problem that this causes for her is that with her naturally short range she wants to be darting around as quickly as possible, and it's easy to accidentally cancel an auto attack at very bad times. I don't notice this problem as often on other ranged champions, and every Quinn player will tell you that her auto attack animation needs some love.

You can cancel your auto attacks with any champion by clicking away too quickly, but Quinn's attack is particularly easy to cancel. I recommend trying it yourself with Quinn, Ashe, and Jinx (like i did, without recording).

Quinn's attacks are insanely easy to cancel. Jinx's minigun attacks are the next easiest to cancel, but more difficult when she had some attack speed ramped up. I didn't do this test with the rockets, but I've played enough Jinx to know that they cancel pretty easily too. Ashe's attacks were the most difficult to cancel.

The point of my post, and video, is to highlight the fact that Quinn's auto attack frames need to be smoothed out so they can't be cancelled by the simplistically bronze level of orb walking. They smoothed out the attack frames for Ekko this patch, I feel they need to do the same for Quinn .

Here's to hoping this gets noticed by senpai....

I think you may have misclicked your champ icon ;)

Nope. But I have seen this with plenty of other champions as well Quinn Sona Annie MissFortune Soraka Nami

Just from experiences from the past few months so I don't know if they fixed those or not, (allies and enemies besides MissFortune).

that feel when OP assumes she misclicked just because she mentioned mf rofl.

Well to be fair MissFortune and Quinn icons are actually right on top of each other

I feel like Arcade Miss Fortune is a straight buff to her. Somehow I miss a lot less AA's on her with that skin. Maybe I'm just crazy. I know people have said stuff about Spirit Guard Udyr and Pulsefire Ezreal having some minor differences in their AA animation though. (In Ezreal's case they even changed it a little this patch to make it 'feel' better..I don't know much about that though as I don't have the skin, and I don't really play ez,) but, yeh.. Arcade MF OP?

I don't see the problem? It's just like Jinx's rockets, you have to let it wind up and fire the projectile before clicking away.

I'm gonna copy/paste what i said above:

Actually, the problem is that you can cancel Quinn autoattacks even after the projectiles fire. Hell, the passive autoattack can be cancelled even when it visually hit the enemy. The very same goes for Urgot.

Squidblimp2 votes

If that's the case, then yes, it should be changed. I don't play Quinn so I don't know, but in the video, I did not see any examples of what you just said. Not denying that it's something that happens though, since I don't know.

My left ear really liked this video.

And I still have no idea how this clunkiness can remain in her kit. A champion shouldn't be hindered by their own bugginess for such a long time.

FlashnFuse1 votes

The stereo sound seemed okay on my headphones? At any rate, I'm blaming windows movie maker.

Quinn and Valor, Demacia's forgotten wings T_T

Though to be fair, they've done an incredible job removing a lot of vault's bugs. It really feels solid now (minus the occasional stall out).

BetaDude402 votes

Nah, the game sound seems fine on closer inspection, but your microphone input is directed straight into my left ear. I dunno if it's a problem on my end because I don't see anyone else complaining about it.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Listening to it again, the narration definitely sounds louder out of my left headphone. No idea what would cause that, so i'm definitely blaming movie maker XD

BetaDude401 votes

Yeah, Movie Maker sucks. There's free downloadable software that easily functions better and allows more features than Windows Movie Maker. I'd suggest looking into it.

On the subject of Quinn, allowing her to orbwalk would make her a much better ADC in general, and then meaningful balance can be performed on her to function in botlane better. So much design potential and power that could be given or taken from her kit is hindered by these glaringly obvious bugs. The vault was one of the issues, but she's just going to have to go through several fixes in order for Riot to reach such a state.

Saianna3 votes

Tristana has exactly the same problems (after rework).

Hope Riot will fix that eventually!

Sinlaire2 votes

tristana's is bad too.

Nilok2 votes

Ya, Riot has been too busy making Champions look nice, instead of play nice.

Gameplay and Game Feel > Graphics.

junglerboy162 votes

yeah, the only other ADC that I struggle with accidentally AA canceling is actually Sivir oddly enough, and I hate playing because of that. Quinn quite obviously has it much worse and I know that it just feels absolutely nasty playing a champ that does that.

Good luck man, I just made a post about this 3 days ago, got 100+ likes but the post quickly sank to the bottom underneath all the Sated Devourer posts.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Ya I wish more Reds would post on these, most times it just feels like i'm yelling into a void though... The video helps demonstrate the problem, which helps garner more attention at least...

yeah you are canceling your attack

because you dont have that much attack speed

stop clicking away from the minions so fast

yeah i guess that seems pretty fair

This is the only thing about Quinn that makes me not play her. I actually think she's an interesting adc, but I absolutely can't stand her auto attack animation. You can even sometimes see your projectile land on top of the enemy, and still cancel it. It's been this way since she was released 2 years ago, and they haven't fixed it. Seems crazy to me.

Attack speed doesn't do anything about the speed of the animation, i'm pretty sure of that

You just seem bad at orbwalking imo

I read that. And you just seem bad at orbwalking.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Because im intentionally walking out of attack range? Regardless of how you feel about my orbwalking, go practice cancelling autoattacks in an empty custom game with the previously mentioned champions.

With your superior orbwalking, your expert opinion is truly invaluable to this thread.

Joe Dredd1 votes

No, because you aren't giving time for the attack to go. It happens to me a lot as well because my orbwalking isn't good either. But what you are doing is not accepting that you aren't good at orbwalking and instead blaming the champion.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Please try it yourself, seriously. ** I was intentionally cancelling my auto attacks for this video** and I've played so many quinn games that i can (and have) adjusted for not cancelling her auto attacks. The point of this post is that its so much easier to cancel Quinn's auto attacks compared to other marksmen.

Please try playing a custom game as quinn and try it out. You'll find, as I do (and as many people who enjoy playing quinn do) that Quinn's auto attacks are clunky and easy to cancel.

Joe Dredd1 votes

I have played quinn multiple times before.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Well okay then, have a nice day :)

I don't mind having slow AA windups on the likes of Annie and Sona, but AD Carries should have the cleanest AA animations possible.

FlashnFuse1 votes

Agreed

I never knew this was actually an issue with Quinn LOL I just thought I couldn't cs well or attack someone well, if that's even possible. I really hope riot fixes this, because I've missed so many kills and cs for moving when my arrow has "hit"

FlashnFuse1 votes

My CSing is generally pretty awful because I'm a jungler XD . But I've played enough Quinn games to (mostly) compensate for her windup.

Wajster1 votes

Does anyone feel like this is a thing on Draven too. I get so many cancelled AA's on him. Also jinx's pow-pow(iI think that's what rocket form is called).

FlashnFuse1 votes

Ya Jinx's rocket launcher is just as easy to cancel, and I don't play Draven so i wouldn't know :/

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

Yeah, it's really annoying that this happens all the time on Quinn (makes my already bad CSing worse)

quick question though: Essence Reaver on Quinn? As a first item? Doesn't seem all too efficient

FlashnFuse2 votes

As a first item in a real game it would be a bad idea, but I was against bots and wanted the mana sustain to push a lane and vault/blind eternally :)

ModWulf Helhammer1 votes

ah, that makes sense
