"I lost lane because I chose the wrong runes and masteries."

I was playing with a Hecarim top who was getting annihilated by the opposing Jax. Around 25 minutes or so when multiple towers had gone down, he repeatedly ventured deep into the top lane to take their inner turret, only to get ganked by Jax and their jungle Ammumu every time. I told him, "Hec, don't venture into top lane if you haven't warded", and he responded, "Fuck you. This game is garbage. I lost my lane because I chose the wrong runes and masteries."

I overwhelmingly disagreed with his comment. It sounded like a cheap excuse for not playing smartly, or carefully. What if the enemy laner had forgotten his runes and masteries, too? What would his excuse had been then?

What are your thoughts on this?

Why is this even a poll?

Its obvious that runes and masteries make a difference. Hell some champ are so dependent on them for the early game that its funny that they are ever considered legit pics.

Can it be over come, possibly.

Was this thread pointless YES

You wanna know how much of a difference it makes? Take AP runes and support masteries on an ADC. Go on. Go on.

Yeah, it hurts. especially for champions who need the power boost early to win their lane. It does not however excuse poor decisions. There are no runes to prevent someone from making stupid plays.

Only slightly, as they aren't op bonuses. They just help in different situations. Bringing the wrong set just tells you play safe till late.

Yes it affects your success in lane...

It does NOT excuse it

Also adding " Fuck you. This game is garbage." basically is a terrible attempt to trick people into voting your way

I was once forced to play support Malphite with 21 in Utility toplane against Garen since we had a troll 5th pick Volibear support in champ select. Definitely affected my success since I didn't have AD masteries to last hit under turret and Garen would do tons of damage to me whenever he hit me.

While he was getting 2v1ed where were you?

What about champions with good early games (Karma, for example)? Do they necessarily suffer from choosing the wrong runes and masteries?

I watched a stream on youtube that had Krepo and some of the guys from Imagine Dragons playing. Dan Reynolds (the lead singer) was the jungler on Wukong and he accidentaly selected his AP runes because he was so nervous. He had a horrible early game but the guys on his twitch stream kept telling him to play bluekong hehe.

It can make a huge difference having the wrong runes/masteries. Especially if you play that character a lot and you are used to them being able to do certain things based on their stats. Even a loss of 10 dmg in the early game is going to mess up your normal CS'ing patterns. I am not too familiar with how Hecarim plays but I am guessing he didn't have his normal survivability and it made it so he misjudged dives/trades. The rest was probably just rage at how bad the game was going.

Edit: He may not have realized they were the wrong things until after he got trashed. With wrong setup and down a kill and a bunch of CS, the lane's lost.

Take full AP masteries as an adc and try to win.
