Varus Gameplay

I've been using Varus whenever I am forced into ADC mainly because I really enjoy his Q. His W & E really feel underwhelming, though proper timing allows for successful E's it still feels weak when compared to say MissFortune 's AoE Slow. I typically build item 3087 item 3006 and then my third item is typically based on situation. I am not seeing as much success as I think I should be seeing with Varus. I've bought both Vayne & Quinn but have yet to devote time to learning either. Should I continue on Varus? Any tips? Or is he truly an underwhelming ADC at this time?

Varus has really strong Q damage. You are buying the wrong items. Check some pro games with him - people were buying Ghostblade bot and Muramana mid first. You also have to stack your passive and then proc it with some ability... He is harder to play than MF or Quinn.

item 3042 item 3158 item 3142 item 3812 will put you at 45% CDR with blue buff and the second-last tier of the Cunning mastery tree. Those items and item 3033/item 3036 is all Varus needs to kill literally anybody as a midlaner.

Varus is fun but the reason he's not played much is because his q isn't that reliable. Landing a q is a guessing game unless you do it from the fog of war or a bush.

Or get better at landing skillshots, lol. Longest-range Q in the game with a fast projectile speed and wide hitbox, really isn't too difficult.

If you're having a hard time landing arrows, aim for their feet instead of the bulk of your target and try and hit where they are pathing toward. Also: charging your Q up outside the enemy's field of vision will give them a lot less time to react to the projectile.

Varus is a much better midlaner. The fact that he's so mana-gated without an early Manamune /Tear on first-b sets you back a lot as far as trading AAs with the enemy ADC is concerned--can't really compete with an ADC who comes back to lane with a BF sword unless your poking skills are really good. In midlane it isn't really a problem because your playstyle is a lot more about slugging Q+E than swapping AAs with people. Varus' E is less about the slow and more about the upfront AOE damage and Grevious Wounds it applies, and is a great poking tool when maxed second as opposed to W.

That being said, he can still run bot against some team-comps and do quite well. He's always been a decent teamfighting ADC thanks to his Ult and AOE-GW, but his competence in botlane leaves a lot to be desired. I think a lot of people spite him for having a Q that scales so well with AD and armor pen, but a passive and W that favours aspd-based onhit tankbusting crap--Varus has got a serious identity-crisis which makes playing him feel awkward.

My vote is Keep Playing Varus, but as a midlaner, and consider picking up Cait or Jinx if long-ranged poking is how you like to roll in the botlane.

Get a RFC, enjoy.

Varus is pretty bad, even in mid right now when he used to be decent.
