In regards to the new jungle

Is anyone else extremely dissatisfied with the new jungle? I just think that it really isn't fun. It's more challenging so less champions can be jungled, which would normally be fine but it basically made a whole class of junglers (carry jungles like elise and khazix) bottom tier, bordering on non viable. I appreciate that they needed a nerf but I still want to be able to play them. It feels impossible to be strong as a jungle right now, especially before hitting six and you have to basically power farm until you hit a power spike with your champion. Also the jungle items don't feel rewarding enough and the only really good smite is the one from ranger's trailblazer because everyone needs the sustain so badly. I think the only exception to this is attack speed, farming junglers (master yi and udyr for example), who are incredibly strong right now because the skirmishers saber is really good and devourer is also really good. Plus the new jungle encourages power farmers which just helps them even more. That's how I feel about it and honestly I think it would be nice if they reverted it until they had something that was a little stronger. I know this is just preseason but being a jungler feels really bad.

I feel the jungle has been pretty rewarding and fun. I've been testing out new masteries and rune sets to find that biscuits and the defensive tree makes pretty much any non-sustain jungler viable again. I was able to take Nocturne for a spin going 19/11/0 and cleared the entire jungle on my first go.

You need to experiment a bit more. My friends and I have been able to jungle almost every champion that can or used to jungle.

It's not a huge problem getting through it. It's about how low you get while doing it. Also since the camps take longer to respawn it means that gold income is in bursts rather than a consistent rate over time. It makes early game the carry junglers irrelevant as the position as a whole was nerfed early game, making junglers that either are high in utility or damage late game, since early game snowballing from the jungle is pretty impossible now, the best choice by far. With the correct runes and masteries you could go through the jungle no problem but that means you have to sacrifice damage for tank or sustain now, meaning you won't be as strong early as you were before.

Ganking early is something Riot wanted to stop. Unless you use a carry jungler and put in the offensive tree, forcing you to gank for level gain instead of farm, you need to farm the jungle until you can safely gank in the later part of the early game.

I agree with this partially because I think that ganking early had it's issues and it was to strong of a strategy. BUT, I think ganking early needs to be viable in some capacity because some junglers are extremely dependent upon it. It means that ganking reliant junglers, I think eve is a great example here, are basically pointless as they will fall behind if they try to gank. And I guess my view is probably biased but those early power gankers are my favorite kind of jungler (I've been playing it since season two don't judge!). Elise is probably my favorite champion and I think honestly the fact that she isn't very good on this patch takes a lot of fun out of the game for me.

Masteries will need to be updated if this is going to work. Right now only a select few hyper-sustain champions can function in the jungle.

That's not true. Rammus can jungle fine, even with his recent nerf, and he's anything but sustainy. Same with nocturne (at least, he has no sustain early game). I do personally tend to prefer sustainy junglers, but that doesn't mean the non-sustainers can't work.

Carry junglers have anything but disappeared. Look at LeeSin.

I think you're just overestimating the difficulty of the jungle. It's a lot to take in, and it is harder than it used to be, but it's not too bad a learning curve. Just take some time and find what works for you.

Thats because he is Lee Sin, The Blind Monk. But actually, it made some junglers fairly strong. Tank junglers, bruiser junglers and attack speed farm junglers, for example, got a lot stronger. However the carry junglers that aren't either attack speed reliant or tanky either early and require early kills and successful ganks in the beginning, khazix, eve, and elise for example, are subpar. All of those champs really require early success to be good and will just feel underwhelming because of it in the new jungle. Lee Sin is an exception because he doesn't have to snowball a game early as he can do so incredibly well mid game and even late game. Also, you might argue that elise can also be successful under the same circumstances, which holds some truth. However, if that is your view I advise you to go and play her because I found her to just feel like she gets behind quickly if you try to gank at all early and aren't successful. And then mid game you can try to snowball but usually I find that I just fall to far behind at that point.

I don't play elise, so I can't really speak to that. However, it sounds like the problem is less about the jungle and more about a class of champions functioning within it. I think that'll just be a balance situation in which Riot gives them some early buffs and brings them up to par.
