What if they added random water cannons to the outfield in baseball...

Would it still be baseball? No.

When you change the sporting arena you're changing the sport. Plants in the jg... are a different game entirely. It's a different game mode. NOT an addition to summoner's rift.

It's amazing that RIOT seems unwilling to embrace their identity as an esport when developing the game. There's no "minor" leagues or T-Ball (as in practice modes and cs farmers and alternative game modes that focus on warding or team fighting or jungle pathing) but there's plenty of let's screw up the jungle so the games are harder. Plus every time they change the map it doesn't bring about new and interesting objectives but adulterated something that wasn't wrong in the first place. When you have a sport, you can't change the arena... Football shouldn't be played on a baseball field.... tennis can't be done on a soccer field... and basketball isn't played in a swimming pool (unless you're at one of those really fun waterparks...). The arena needs to be static in many ways because otherwise the individual skill levels of the players aren't as important as the arena... which is just completely absurd. Yes, I'm sure it's insanely boring to play the exact same thing over and over and over... oh wait that's any sport and it's not boring. Granted as an eArena, the rift does offer some things that can be tweaked and should be. But adding an entirely new element for the sake of making jungling harder than "clear my camps, ward properly and decide which lane to gank" isn't going in the right direction.

Just completely sad that no one at riot seems to get these things and when they do respond about it... it's so canned... so political and so pointless that there's no way they could possibly be listening.

I agree completely... there'd be some AWESOME elements to add to this rift. Water cannons that knock you around... Fire Cannons that deal damage, Electric shock mines... that stun. Lot's of things that make the battle arena just as dangerous as the players within it... but it wouldn't be summoners rift... it wouldn't be the esport arena that's been used for years. It WOULD NOT highlight individual players skills as much. It'd just be cheap thrills and entertainment. No one wants a carnivorous plant to randomly come up and eat a wide receiver mid catch... even EA games won't change the arenas. It's not right to add random elements into a contest of skill. It diminishes the value of those skills.

Meteos had a mechanically perfect Nidalee spear. It was cool to watch. But what if a water cannon knocked him aside... or a plant slowed him just a little right there... does that really ADD to the game? Does that show off his skill level? No. It doesn't. It's just clown like nonsense in the middle of a sports arena.

Lol. Metoes would of noticed the plant and he would of adjusted.

Its why hes a pro and your not.

You cant complain about rng until crit is entirelly removed from the game.

As that affects shit WAYYYYYYYYYY more than some plants.

It would be like if there was a random cork cored bat in the pile that the baseball player was lucky enough to pick up and get a better swing due to RANDOM CHANCE.

Ps. Id watch football way more if there was random piranha plants.

Would be dope.

Dude, when I was playing baseball back in highschool and college, I would have loved water cannons. Fucking hotter than hell in Texas during baseball season.

I'm pretty sure baseball also doesn't change something every season.

That's not true at all. Many sports revise their rules and adjust all sorts of things to the game each year and even things that affect the arena such as what color the lines are painted, what's ruled out of bounds or not, which bats or balls can be used, whether a stadium can have an aquarium surrounding the field (yes it's real), Infield fly ball rules... etc. And granted those changes can be more noticeable in lol but it's not any different really. It IS different when there's a totally new element. Changing baron and dragons was changing existing things... fine... tweak them. It's a new sport. It'll be ok. Add something to the field? Why? To what end?

Because it's meant to keep things flowing and not go stale.

There are a multitude of ways this can be done without changing the sports arena. And people have mentioned a few in these comments already.

Except changes to the jungle are expected. First we got the whole new rift, then we got the rift herald, then rng dragons.

I'm not saying I like plants. I'm saying that people saying to leave the jungle alone are fighting a futile battle.
