My Thoughts on Champs Commonly Accused of Being OP

We all know these champs, fizz, darius, yasuo, zed, etc. Oftentimes I feel that people just call these champions OP because they personally struggle against them, which of course would not bring in a nerf. Every champ counters someone's playstyle, and every champ has been called overpowered because of it, and that is not an accurate measurement of their power.

However, fighting the champs that are very commonly considered OP, even when I know their weaknesses, can be incredibly frustrating. For example, I know that Darius is slow, everyone knows that, and kiting him is quite easy, but I don't like not being able to ever slip up at any point ever while kiting Darius, which is oftentimes how good you have to be if he's fed. I know that Darius is perfectly balanced, if not underpowered in high ranks, but for people like me who are the incarnation of Bronze 12 Darius is simply a better choice than most if not all other top laners if you want to win.

I don't think these champs should be flat out nerfed or majorly reworked, but minor reworks to make them less frustrating and more interesting, like the Warwick rework would be nice. I'm sure that some people at Riot has already realized this and are working on it, but I feel that I should say it anyway.

EDIT: Looking back at my post it looked like I was implying that none of the champs are OP, I do not think that the balance in this game is perfect, just better than what many people are accusing it of being.

It's also because they are played quite often... I mean, Rammus is annoying ASFK and really strong.. but no1 crying about him being OP cuz hes not played enough.

I think this guy is right. Like I don't mind playing versus yasuo and Lee sin but I can't go 2 or 3 games without seeing them out of the 134 that exist. 133 if you don't count urgot lol.

That is actually a very good point, since most of the time decisons of power level are based on emotions. If you are angry fighting something 34892787 times that's going to shape your opinon more than fighting it 10 times.

Good observation.

The thing I feel about this is that Warwick will still be called OP by someone as you say "the incarnation of bronze 12" because they personally can't use the counterplay correctly. As will Darius if reworked to be "less frustrating", unless they Zed him(Yes I'm using Zed instead of Olaf now since Olaf is actually decent now, and Zed is pretty garbage atm. His ult is counterproductive even).

That is a good point, but the problem with that idea is that it assumes that only 1 player doesn't have enough game knowlege while everyone else does, which more often than not isn't going to happen. I'm bad at the game personally not from lack of knowledge, but because I struggle implimenting that knowledge. If nobody in a particular match knew the counterplay to each other, then everyone (by that standard) is equal, because everybody is equally bad. Of course in reality there are other factors which create more powerful champs, but I don't think that lack of counterplay knowledge for one particular person.

Thing is, someone who only plays ADC is going to hate Warwick as long as he can land his ultimate, and will still call it OP, despite it having more counterplay than current Warwick. They won't be able to get away from him as well as a top laner or someone with a dash or more than one without flash. His ultimate will likely be best used against ADCs as well, and so the cycle of nerfing champions who can get to them easier than a tank will likely continue, imo. ADCs don't have the knowledge of a top laner/jungler/mid laner unless they play those roles often enough as well, which is why they don't know the counterplay to these champions that are designed to be good against them. Despite the fact everyone has the same amount of game knowledge, it'll be placed in different categories and one will trump the other in situations like Warwick or Darius. If it's a lane vs lane in a Darius example, he only really needs to win a trade early. If he wins one later on after he's lost a bunch, then he's not gonna be magically OP, and honestly champions who fight up close can be pretty good vs him as long as you don't let him heal off you, and don't fight him levels 1-3 unless you want his bleed damage to kill you. A lot of people struggle with this, as I've gotten ganks where they've let him heal rather than staying right up on him, causing him to get a double just because of that one heal. However if you dumpster him in lane he's nothing. Dunno why people call him OP. He plays like most assassins, get fed or become useless.

I understand your point, but my argument was that if one person on a team (the warwick) knows how to counter all of the things preventing him from getting to the ADC (peel, bodyblocking, positioning sense, etc.) then the ADC will likely know the counterplay to warwick ult. These both require knowledge of the enemy, and thus their role to an extent if they don't then nothing happens, Warwick misses his ult and the ADC does little to stop it. If anyone does know while the other does not then that person will rise in elo until they are playing against people that do. If there are other skill differences preventing this, then the warwick will win a similar number of times as the ADC. Although like i said, other factors will likely imbalance this, namely that ADCs are in a bad spot right now, but they're getting buffs soon.

Yeah but right now people that don't play Darius or haven't think he's OP and that's why he's in this list of "OP champions" right now in the first place. Don't get me wrong he can be strong but he has plenty of weaknesses if a top laner knows how to use them, as do all the other ones that everyone screams "OP" or "anti-fun" about. Even if they were reworked it'd be the same song and dance, unless they were turned into Zed to where he's barely even seen anymore.

I never said that Darius was inherently overpowered, just that he is quite strong if you are like me and suck at the game too much to reliably use the counters to him. I know that many people consider him OP because of these reasons, but i'm not one of them.

It's because those champions have high rewards with very little risk
