THAT'S WHY I GENUINELY THINK VEL'KOZ NEEDS A NERF.

Vel'Koz is a long-ranged mage with low-cooldown pokes and a strong passive. However, this made him getting too strong in lane in my opinion after the patches especially changing the items for mages.

The main problem is that vel'koz skills are having cooldowns much lower than other mid-laners while his skills are mostly long-ranged pokes. This made him a quite safe position that he can be farming at the back. Similar champions would be malzahar, but while Vel'koz's skills are at a more low-mana expense. This made him could be a super pushing machine in early game and made him the lane bully.

While, by comparing a champion with simliar mechanism (long-ranged poking with a skill in the mechanism of saving stacks) you could see how Vel'koz is stronger.

Zyra

  • Deadly Bloom RANGE: 800
  • COST: 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 mana
  • COOLDOWN: 7 / 6.5 / 6 / 5.5 / 5

Rampant Growth RANGE: 850 COST: 1 seed Recharge Time: 16.7 / 15.4 / 14.1 / 12.9 / 11.7

Grasping Roots RANGE: 1100 COST: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 mana COOLDOWN: 12 Vel'koz Plasma Fission RANGE: 1050 COST: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 mana COOLDOWN: 7

Void Rift RANGE: 1050 COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Mana + 1 Charge STATIC COOLDOWN: 1.5 Recharge Time: 19 / 18 / 17 / 16 / 15

Tectonic Disruption RANGE: 850 COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana COOLDOWN: 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12

Apparently Vel'koz is having the advantage of low cooldown, low cost and long ranges. While with adequate early farm and an early item 3165 , he would then be an easy one to snowball hard in lane.

I guess that's why people are using him for support these days cause he is dealing extraordinary high damage with much utility and low cost.

Maybe he has a low mana pool or something, if those number are right, cause it seems easy to run out of mana if you try to use anything but your Q in lane, and that spell is not all that useful or reliable

I forgot Vel'Koz was even a champion because I see him so infrequently.

No, I'm serious, I legit forgot. I see Yorick more than Velkoz.

this is why vel koz does not deserwe a nerf despite him being actualy op

no mobility and ramp up time/ medicore rreliability, in 90% of the cases that will happen in gameplay vel koz either just burns the enemy or is left optionless he doesnt even have outplay potential, his q seems like its giving him some, but its just a skillshot that splits, everyone sees when it can hit you

on the other hand zyra who you compared him to is too diferent to compare, if riot would give her some early hp, then zyra woul easily go op imo sincxe her dmg it top tier and probably higher than vel's (she can deal it constantly so in the end she deals realy much)

I get really tired of threads like this where someone decides a champ needs a nerf because they got outplayed or were hard countered.

He has low mobility and unreliable CC. If you don't land his E, you don't get the knock up. And there's no point in using your q to slow down someone like Vi, Zed, Talon, Xin, Ahri, Shaco, ect, ect, from dashing in and folding you up. Vel Koz is in a balanced place because is VERY GOOD at what he does, and retains meaningful, clear weaknesses. That gives him counterplay. I fancy myself an artistic Vel koz player, and I don't win all my match ups. I can get 20 kills ahead and that Vi willl still stomp me no matter what items I switch out.
