What is with the Malzahar nerfs, especially for mid lane?

So the nerfs on PBE show:

• Base armor lowered from 20 to 18.
• Voidling HP lowered from 3 to 2

Why riot? I get that Malzahar as a support is popular and is a pain to play against but this also hurts his mid lane as well. He wasn't even supposed to play in the bot lane in the first place. I could understand if you took damage out of his voidlings and put it into his e but these are straight up nerfs for a champion which is slowly becoming more and more an ult bot on an unintended lane.

Please, if you're going to nerf malzahar - at least take out damage from his voidlings and put it elsewhere into his kit (q or e) but not straight up nerf him, he really is not the problem when you consider other champions who are straight up needing nerfs (looking at you ahri).

I believe his voidlings weren't even supposed to be an integral part of his kit at the start and was strongly disliked by malzahar players for power to be put into them. This is not PvE, damage should not be controlled by AI.
