Should Riot add more items to League?

So I myself have always thought the tight list of meta item picks for you to go for in order to do well in what ever situation have felt off-putting. I would love to have more choice in what I build. Now recently when I was asking Scarra about items in his stream he said that he also thinks there needs to be more items in the game.

This has made me excited to come up with ideas for items, but I have hesitated to get started. The small amount of item suggestions that I've posted in the past have never really gotten a warm welcome, so I wanted to ask the question to everyone; do you think there should be more items added to League of Legends? And I mean a lot more, not just 3 or 4.

Sure there are quite a few items total in game already, but when you split them up into their categories and look at the differing effects you start to see a lot less in what options you have at hand.

One thing that I've really wanted, and even made a suggestion about a while back, is to add more items with stats like lethality and magic penetration. Of course you don't want someone to have too much of those stats, so I had also suggested adding caps to them like the cap on cooldown reduction.

I'm here to play an online strategy video game with and against other people, not just play chess with bland pieces. I want the game to accept more play styles, and not just force people to have to look up "the best build for xyz" or otherwise be called a troll.

We've already seen from the Runes Reforged update that making changes to the tools outside of champion kits can change the game a lot, and really spice things up. Why not add more variety?
