I was told from friends who play they put you in your first 10 rank promos with bronze/silver and throw you to the wolves (playing against enemy teams consifting of gold,plat and Diamond) and see how you fair, if this is true im never playing rank.
its not actually true, but thats what happens when the game notices you play insanely above the level you were placed at.
First matches your mmr is very sensitive. You start at 1200ish mmr, corresponding to silver 4ish, and so you'll play players at around that level. If you win that match, your mmr goes up some, so you might play again in a silver 3ish match. If you win again, you'll be in a harder match and so on. If you win all 10 solo, you're likely to be playing with golds at the end.
You can rig things slightly if you have a high mmr friend to duo with so you can play harder matches for greater mmr gains, so for example challenger smurfs sometimes duo with high mmr other smurfs and manage to place plat 5 even on a fresh account. Even in that scenario they won't face diamonds on a fresh account though.
Note that your teammates are going to be of a similar mmr in each match as your opponents, so if you actually are winning those matchs due to your own skill things should remain relatively fair.

You are matched according to your MMR.
When you play your very 1st ranked game you will have whatever their starting MMR rating is..whatever that is i dont know. Anyone you are matched with will have similar MMR...no matter if they are Bronze or Silver.
If a player is Silver 5 at 0LP they have to lose a lot of games to get demoted back to Bronze 1.......so even tho they still hold the Silver rank they can have the MMR of a Bronze player and that is why you could get matched with Silvers as a Bronze or unranked.
ive never heard of a player playing their 1st ranked games after hitting level 30 and being matched with Golds and Plats.
