A suggestion to change champion difficulty ratings

ArcingWind··1 votes·803 views

Now it might just be me, but I think that some of the difficulty ratings for champions seem a little off and I wanted to know if any Rioter out there feels the same. For example, Miss Fortune is considered a 1/10 while Jinx is considered a 6/10. Now I'm no MF player but I wouldn't place jinx at a 6/10. I wouldn't say Yasuo is a 10/10 either, at least not if Bard is considered a 9/10 and Lee Sin is considered a 6/10. These are just a few examples. Now, this is all just my personal opinion and I am considering the initial skill of a player and the skill with a champion a player gets after many may games. Feel free to express your opinion on the matter and note any champion you think seem a bit off. But do please try to keep things civilized and constructive and don't just rant about a champion you dislike. Do you guys think Riot should adjust the ratings?

Maybe change the rating into 2: Skill Floor and Skill Ceiling

that's an interesting idea and would definitely be good for knowing whether it's a difficult champion to pick up, or just one that's decent in the beginning but a monster to the masters. :)

They seem off because what you consider simple might be different from what I consider simple.

Janna has a relatively high difficulty rating (timing based, has a shield instead of a low CD heal, can fuck up her ult, Q is skillshot, W has drawbacks, has no dmg on her own, etc.) but when I started playing her I found her very easy to pick up because she fitted my style a lot.

That's true. As an example, Back when me and my friends first started playing I found Vayne kinda fun and not really too hard at the time. But some of my friends can't play Vayne well to this day. Different people different strokes. But even with that being a factor, I wouldn't say jinx is a 6/10 when she's generally the champion people use as a go-to to learn the role or to play if its not their main role.

the entire point of the "difficulty" stat is to tell you how likely you will be able to do relatively well in your first few games with said champ. If a champ has a complicated mechanic that might take you a couple of games to understand then the difficulty is higher while ones with low difficulty are those champion that even if you have no previous knowledge of said champion you can still do decent enough with it

Aka Vayne, appearently she is average difficulty, but first timing her during a free week I got a penta with her lol.

I wouldn't say that as some champions like Gnar or Heimerdinger are listed as higher difficulty but aren't that hard to get the basics of quickly. Heck even Annie has a difficulty of 6.

that is what Riot says and Gnar is very easy to fuck up and Heimer you need to learn how to set up turrets effectively. A new player isn't going to do well on Heimer or Gnar most of the time when it's their first time and Annie you need to learn how her stun works and how to use it effectively and not simply use skills at random since that can mean death as the enemy ca just all in you at that point

Okay, maybe you're right on gnar, but even people new to the game have no problem playing Heim or Annie well (Speaking off of the personal experience I've had with them and off of the experiences of my friends when they started.) I'm not saying these champions lack a skill ceiling, but I think these might be a higher than they should be. Especially since Darius is considered a 2/10 overall.

Honestly, 90% of the roster is 5 or below, with a very large portion of it 3 and below. Very few champions are 6 or higher, and I don't think I can think of a champion that has 10/10 difficulty.

Yasuo and Bard as far as I know are the only 2 that have 9 or 10. No one else even comes close, Nidalee, Lee and Elise are close 2nds but I think they are like 6.

Yasuo is DEFINITELY not a 9 or 10. 6 at best, but more like 4-5. Bard is a higher skillcap to pull off properly, but a low-ish skill floor.

Lee: 2-3. Elise: 2. Nid: 3.

I personally had a hard time learning Bard. I looked up guides, watched some videos, and even then it was hard (Especially since every time I'd go to collect nearby chimes my adc would find a way to die unless I was duo with a friend who I could communicate with.) But I do agree with your rating of Yasuo, myself.

Yasuo is hard the first game or two, but then he's pathetically easy, and takes no effort at all. So that's why he isn't a 9 or 10.

Bard though... even though I have rank 5 on him and then some, he requires a lot of effort and thought in order to win. You have to trust your ADC, know what they'll do, be around when they need you, bait people into tunnels so you can stun them on the wall, land your stuns on the right things, use your ult properly, and so much more. He's a hard, mechanics-rich champ, and I love him for that. :P He's an 8+/10 in my book. Mechanically not too hard, but the level of precision, and the thought and effort he requires... yeah he deserves it.

Evelynn Cassiopeia Rumble Anivia all have a 10 rating according to lol wiki. Elise is a 9.

Well, not many people can play Eve, and many call her bad, so yeah, I'd believe she's a higher difficulty champ -- but I wouldn't say 10. Maybe 6-7, since manipulating stealth and dealing with her early-game squishiness takes some effort.

Haven't play any of the other three, so I can't say.
