now i get that tanks should be able to tank towers an thats fine but nexus turrets are the last turrets before taking the nexus they should be a threat to everyone including tanks instead of 2 tanks running up past all the minions an tanking the turret shots no problem an winning the game

Yeah, turrets are rather weak in that context but there is one detail that should be mentioned. Where was your team?
Odds are, they were dead at the time when they did this. Having the last turrets shred tanks reduces the value of superminions since they would shred them too.
Its likely you just lost and their team had a massive gold lead. Sucks but the nexus towers an't to blame.
