I don't know which to buy. I have more experience with Ahri and I've never played Katarina. I like champions that can make big plays and have a lot of mobility. I currently have 6070 BE so I can buy both of them. But I feel like Katarina will be too hard for me. But I want to play a champion with a high skill ceiling and someone I can get good at that is hard. Please help.
Ahri is useless right now.
Based on your description of what you want to be able to do I would think that Katarina would be the champion for you.
She has a high skill-cap and a number of ways to play her, plus you can more easily make big plays to kill opponents with her. Ahri on the other hand, has lower damage and more mobility than Katarina.
Ahri has the outplay potential because of her mobility and her ability to pick targets, while Katarina has more in-combat action and more direct damage.
Also Katarina's spell resets will create a lot of potential for out-plays or big plays.
Just my opinion though. Others might recommend Ahri to you.

Ahri is for people who think League is an anime.
Ahri is an awful lot of fun, but Katarina definitely fits the bill better for what you're looking for in a champ.

Ahri is pretty much a generic mage, she does everything that a mage should do but doesnt do it amazingly. A safe pick for you.
