Azir

I myself am an azir main who has played him since day 1, probably the most mechanically fun champion I have encountered. I understand that his q damage was high, but that range nerf on the soldier is a little much. I feel like I can't hit people who are right next to me. Maybe for early game it is ok, but can the range scale to be a little longer as you level up w?

FOR EVERYONE THAT SAYS AZIR IS OP. Think about this. His win rate before the nerf was already low. Now, It's a 36%. Hope you're happy.

R.I.P Azir

Azir is literally the losingest champion in league now. We Azir mains suffering on the only champion with an under-40% winrate in ranked must now gaze longingly at champions we used to laugh at. It will take some time to get used to being jealous of Urgot, Evelyn, Zac and post-nerf Syndra/Fizz mains.

And Riot tried to call this last patch a "light" one, with only minor nerfs. It should have been obvious to everyone, including the balance team at Riot, that applying these particular nerfs to Azir was going to make him trash-tier.

As someone who's never lost a lane to an Azir (one word: Anivia), I don't understand all of the nerfs he's getting. People claim he's a lane bully, but I can't see this being true to anyone with any access to range. His early game is pathetic, even moreso than Anivia, who scales MUCH harder into the late game. That being said, I rarely see him go top lane, and whenever I do, he always loses there, too. I've seen everyone from plat and below try him, never with any success.

When I play mid I only play azir, I may be bronze 2 but man have I carried some games, he was very good at zoning people out of farm for an ok late game but now he has lost all potential

The patch also went against itself. They wanted to make him less effective early game, so they nerfed his late game base damage, and even some of his ratios. I agree with W being way too strong against turrets, but everything else seemed brutal. His Q already didn't have much range in most situations. You have to get the absolute max range for it to be impressive, and that NEVER happens in fights, unless you misplaced a soldier, see someone coming in for a gank, and could actually get some distance off of it. Even then, you just used every non-ult spell to escape, which seems pretty fair to me. If I have to use Anivia's Q to stun someone, my wall to block them after the stun, and even my ult to slow them even more, no one's complaining about her. This requires the same amount effort as Azir's full-kit escape, so I don't see the problem. He doesn't enjoy low CDs like Anivia, even though he gets max CDR, and he suffers even more than Anivia for misusing his spells. He literally can't do anything without his soldiers, Anivia at least has her Q if she mispositions her ult or wall.

It's effective in that ELO because people in there don't know how to deal against him nor do they want to.

From a purely design standpoint, it makes more sense- keeping your soldiers close together is a must if you ever want to win fights. From a gameplay standpoint, with a 400 range stab can potentially cover a 800 unit stretch. Assuming you try to walk all the way through that, it'd take 2-ish seconds to get through, not to mention 800 units is a huge wall to pass for the price of 1-2 stabs. With the range reduction, the potential falls to 650 units. This isn't all that bad, to be honest- it barely takes 1/2 of a second to walk that far, but it reduces Azir's zoning potential by quite a bit. It makes him a much less oppressive laner.

The problem is that his laning phase against anyone with range and a higher burst them (literally any mage, Azir is DPS, not burst) is incredibly weak.

You say it isn't bad. But try playing him after the nerf. Literally one of the most frustrating things to do.

I'm fine with the changes honestly, they're shifting him to rely more on his soldiers for their AA damage, I'm fine with the range nerf now that I'm use to it, but I do like the idea of giving it a bit more range on leveling W, it would be like giving your soldiers better weapons to fight with not to mention the new incentive to level the skill 1st or 2nd. It would be interesting.

I think that the w nerf was the dumbest thing riot has ever done.

How is it that i cannot seem to find ANY talk of Azir's remaining (and super frustrating) issues?

Every single time (without fail) that i cast W outside of its range, he just casts it within his range - always way short of where it was clicked. Even specifically selecting a turret with W when that turret is not already in range causes Azir to cast a soldier NEXT to the turret.

I can't be the only one experiencing this, and its been like this for a loooong time now! I call BS if thats how W is intended to work. What other ability does that? When you cast a item 2044 on a specific spot out of range your champ walks up to place it there. Simple.

For me he has gone from one of the most fun champs to play, to the single most frustrating champ i have ever played. Even old fully bugged Poppy was less frustrating.
