Why does Aatrox need a full resource bar to revive?

Compared to other revive champions (Anivia, Zac) and pseudo-revive champion (Sion, Karthus)

Anivia and Zac's revive are just gated by cooldown. Sion and Karthus has no limitations whatsoever for proccing the effect. So what makes Aatrox different in this regard? Is it because he's untargetable while he's reviving?

Not a QQ thread (I don't even play Aatrox), just curious about the decision behind the change, and why it's more balanceable than before.

Aatrox old revive was by far the best of those, because it was guaranteed(unlike Zac or Anivia who can be killed), and actually revived him(unlike Sion and Karthus who just get few bonus seconds, and in weakened state). That's why it needed additional gating.

Moreover, Aatrox has another extremely powerful form of sustain, combined with reviving it was too much to be balancable.

Aatrox needs buffs now, I guess, but it should be easier to buff him now.

Except Aatrox's cooldowns are hilariously long, so when he revives he has no passive, less AS, less AD and no means of sticking to people. Incidentally, he loses his sustain when he's kited, rendering that a non-factor.

In other words, just like before the mini rework, he'll almost always die again after triggering his passive. He just loses even more now when kited/reviving.

I would like the revive to be removed and Aatrox buffed. I played a game where I could revive only once or twice (getting bursted by Graves even when I had tanky items, before I could do anything). Super unreliable passive. Even when you revive, you will still die again. At least Sion can do some dmg or zone the enemy squishies.

It's actually super reliable because Blood Well stays up when in combat. When you're diving you should have no problem activating it with Q+E+ult (hit at least 2 people)+1W damage auto, and then as long as you're taking or dealing damage (to champions) every 4 seconds, it'll stay up.

Now that his revive heals him for 30% of his max health instead of a base amount, it's much stronger with a tanky build. It's an extra 1k effective health with only 3k max health, and he also still gets 1 second of his passive left when he revives, which will be refreshed upon taking or dealing damage (to champions) as well.

They decided losing both his damage output and sustain when getting kited isn't bad enough, so they shoved even more of his power budget into his passive which is lost when kited.

But don't worry, you have profoundly telegraphed CC on a 10 year cooldown with a tiny radius to help you out.

Not that this justifies the weak state Aatrox is in, but he has the shortest CD revive of any champion.

I think we can all agree he is definitely very weak (and weaker than before), since Riot also recognized it. I'm more curious about how it's more easily balanced.

Tanktrox actually got a huge buff. His E and Q buff (total AD scaling makes up for the loss in base damage by itself) means he actually does damage with a tank build, and losing his %health costs really, really, helped. Add in Titanic, which's active gives a lot of extra burst, and your damage against squishies is pretty great, while being tanky.
