why do tanky junglers/top tanks in general do as much damage as they do?

i cant get this over my head, every time i play it's the same thing over and over again. i get it im new, because i wont lie, sit here and say that i am a diamond player, i am a silver 4 player that basically just strted playing ranked. but the thing that i always see is these tanky, and i mean TANKY junglers/top laners that build full armor/hp and still manage to get a ton of damage across, like for example rengar, im not calling him op or anything but jesus, every time i go against him it's the same thing, full tank build with little to no damage at all and jumps, slows and bursts down a ton of hp. or renekton even, full fkin tank and still does a load of damage, i know everything has its counters but this looks ridiculous to me, they manage to get so much damage across even with their full tank build.

That's just mid-game. Their damage falls off pretty hard late game. A four-item ADC who kites well and has even a little bit of peel will always out-damage a four-item tank.

Wanna hear a joke? ADCs in Season 7.... hahahahaha

They have more relative damage output since they live longer than the average damage carry. A lot of tank junglers also need higher base stats because they build tank, and need the extra damage to clear.

Top lane tanks and junglers need high base damages to farm in their roles and be a relative threat to their opponent.

Rengar is just very dumb at the moment and Renekton is a well known lane bully who hurts a lot. They both usually build a bruiser item as well so they get a damage boost.

But an actual tank can only really hurt a squishy (exception is Poppy who hurts everyone). Trying to fight a fighter with damage items as a full tank tank is usually a losing battle. Especially if they have incombat sustain (something that tanks generally lack).

Unless you're ahead as the tank.

Sunfires does a lot of damage over a long time.

True, which is why it's encouraged to kite and keep your distance for ranged champions. Though on melee bruisers that have at least one MR item, they get an advantage in a longer fight.

Sadly, tanks are the class with the most lockdown.

All that lockdown doesn't help me win a 1v1 vs Darius, Olaf, or any juggernaut.

Of course not, but juggernauts hard counter tanks by design.

Fighters, however...

Eh...Vi, Xin, Fiora, WW, and really any sustained damage or CC fighter can fuck a tank over.

They're also dps fighters who specialize in tank killing.

However, a MonkeyKing Jayce Pantheon Hecarim JarvanIV will have a fairly tough time killing tanks. Burst based fighters, if you will

Wukong and Jayce not so much because they can kite very well.

Except Nasus... Wither is too strong in 1v1 situations, either for fighting or disengaging. Notable exceptions are champs who have sustained percent health damage, dashes, and auto-attack resets like Fiora, Shyvana, and Vayne. The former also has a slow in her kit, and the latter two will often build Blade of the Ruined King or even Frozen Mallet.

one of the so called tanks that does massive damage and people argue with me that he does damage... is Maokai

on a regular basis i end up doing as much if not more damage then the rest of the champs in game

The current meta for tanks is those who can make the most use of Sunfire Cape. This is lead by champs like Maokai and Poppy who have both dashes and considerable lockdown on short cooldowns in order to keep the opponent in range of Sunfire Cape's passive for the longest duration. Runner-ups include Nautilus and Sion, but these two rely on slow skillshots and not point-and-click to start their combos, so they're not as reliable. A really good Xin Zhao or Shen player could probably accomplish the same thingas Poppy and Maokai, too, but not with the same ease or the same amount of success.

its not that they do so much damage, its just that you don't build to do enough damage and they have better early scaling.

tank != no damage

tank == very different power curve

tanks should be kicking your ass earlygame
