Ok so. I'm pretty sure this thread has been made before, but with the retirement of runes, people who play the most will have more useless IP than ever. Myself I'm reaching 30k IP, I'd LOVE to spend it but I have nothing to buy with it (since I have no interest in a name change and already own the full roster).

So, refer to the title. I think making chromas buyable by IP permanently, or letting people gift champions with IP would be two good ideas to start with.

I heard somewhere if you play around 15 games a week it will take 3 years to get every champ

The problem is that there will be always a point when you have no more things to spend IP on. As this is a MOBA and not an MMO, the game goes way beyond "gearing up". For example you stop getting XP when you reach lvl 30 but that's the point when the game actually starts, ain't it?

About the same goes for IP too, practically they could make all the champs available from the start, just like DoTA, it wouldn't change the actual gameplay. IP cost on champs just makes players spend enough time to get familiar with their champs and to don't be spoilt for choice. But kind of that's all. And even if you could buy more things with IP - even new things or already existing ones, like skins, chromas or anything - there would be a point when you have nothing to spend on.

Why don't you just play for the fun and/or your personal improvement in the game? As you obviously can't have things what give you any gameplay advantage, implementing something new with the only reason to work as an IP sink would really make you happy? Do you want to spend IP just to spend IP?

I don't say I wouldn't support ideas like being able to get a skin of your choice for free or IP for a champ when you hit lvl 7 with it - or just to be able to buy chromas for IP... Probably none of them would really hurt the business model. But none of these kind of ideas would solve the problem that sooner or later you will have nothing to spend IP on. But tbh I don't think it's a problem, we aren't playing for the IP after all, it's just some random number in the upper corner, nothing more...

Gifting champions with IP would have to cost even more IP than just buying ti yourself to make ti fair and to disincentive people from just buying all the champs for their friends tho.

As for Chromas, it's iffy. On one hand, i originally would have argued that making them cost RP was dumb but since we have Hextech now, I kinda feel scummy saying that. I do agree tho that we need something else to spend IP on though. Maybe Quests can be purchased? idk.

Chromas do come out for IP sales at times. I think offering the skins for IP as well as RP wouldn't be terrible. Having similar temporary sales might work out. Start with the old lower quality (by current standards) first to see how it works out.

Make weakling chests. They have much lower chance of giving you anything expensive, and what they produce cannot be rerolled unless you already own it. However, they still have a chance of giving good stuff. Just astronomically low.

Maybe they could give the option to spend a large amount (10K) of IP on a key/chest. This would help out with those one-role summoners and poeple that don't play too hot.

Rewarding players for their dedication to the game is almost never a bad thing.

I think that IP should be able to be dumped into buying both boxes and keys. I think around 2000 IP for a box and 2000 for a key would be rather fair. It would still be vastly inferior to buying content flat out via RP (if you go by the pricetag of 975 being worth 6300 IP on new champs, where one RP is worth approx 6.5 IP) or even boxes/keys via RP (Effectively worth 807 IP for an individual key or box, or 630 IP each if you bought them as the bundle) but would allow you to dump vast volumes of IP rather easily.

Yes. I'm one of them, even when you take into account the fact that I have every rune.

Assuming 100k IP with no boxes or keys prior, you get 25 boxes that you can open. Going by the values from the chinese release of box chances, each box gives you a chance at a champion (14% chance) or skin shard (45% chance), or an icon (7%) or ward skin (30%). The odds are not all that great of getting some good value out of that many boxes, most likely you'll just end up getting 3-4 skins you like and a ton of content that you would have never considered buying anyway (Which means Riot lost nothing in giving it to you for free via the box, because they never would have gotten money for it anyway).

100K IP ends up being 11 skin shards, of which only 1 in 3 on average can be converted into an actual skin.

100k IP was worth 3-4 skins, and a smattering of wards and icons.

I have here a great solution!

Allow players to purchase in-game items on a lease!

How does this work?

Say if you want an Infinity Edge,** you can "rent" it with IP**, and what happens is that you will start the game with it already in your inventory! Of course the only limit to this is that you can't bring mode specific items into another mode, but otherwise you can pre-purchase any in-game item of your choice and select your loadout before each match.

The rent expires after a couple games (negotiable) and so you will have to renew the rent to continuously have this extra edge.

Who doesn't like extra goodie, eh???!! Hey, you know everybody all too well, aren't you a smart one.

This also coincidentally solves all the "I have too much IP" problem you're all talking about, win-win!!!

I'd like to get something out of sinking so much time on league besides rank (personal improvement). With all the possible ways they could implement new ways to spend IP, it's possible to make it so people won't run out of things to spend IP on for years (unless of course they're sitting at some stupidly high amount of IP ie 10mil)

well, if you want to get rid of the ip excess a good way of doing it is getting lvl 7 on all champions you got, it doesn't take much to get lvl 5 on many champions since you used to play that much to have nothing to buy with ip anymore, you can buy the 1700 ip coin just for blue essence, it may require a lot of ip to get 7 on, i don't know, maybe 20-30 champs? i don't think this is a solution for the problem itself , but buying skins and a lot of chromas for IP is bad because you know, this is not only about fun, is a business ( and a big one) itself, they have to pay for servers and employees about to gift champions, that would breed a bigger problem, a "black market" problem where people with 100-200k ip would sell champions for money

This literal thread gave me an idea. I read the title and was like "I agree kinda like those chroma sales" and i think I got it.

riot is putting out (actually good) chromas a lot more often now, so maybe starting next season since we dont have to buy runes, what if along with rotating champ sales we ALSO had rotating chroma sales? Like chromas that already passed their bi-yearly sale could go on an IP sale of like idk 2K every week or so?

Encourages skin purchasing too, so i mean cha-ching rito.

Yeah definitely need something more... I own most of the champs and am only spending IP on the mystery hextech champion shards when I need to upgrade champion mastery to lvl 6 or lvl 7 lmao

Chromas are sold for IP, after 4-6 months after their release. I think those sales are twice per year, if i remember correctly. I think it's 2000 IP per chroma. I'm still waiting on those Headmistress Fiora chromas pack... just stop, you played for a long time, you got what you needed, people asking for more uses for ip are so infuriating, you can get all the rank 6/7's with all the ip you have meanwhile people who dont own every single champ still need ip for champions, runes (yes its being changed but people still bought em and still will cus most new players have no knowledge of runes being reworked), and if we want those shiny rank 6/7's, like theres plenty of uses, sorry you played enough to get everything, you get free icons once in a while.

I'm honestly curious in what difference does it make to you if there is something buyable with ip. I mean until that "something" is not mandatory like runes were you can just ignore it and keep buying champions?

What's with all the vitriol? What points are you trying to make? I'm not calling for the removal of IP, I'm not trying to trash on people who don't have all the champions, I'm just asking for another use for IP, most specifically on "lesser" cosmetics. Because once the runes retire, for people who bought all the champs, besides masteries (and not everyone tries to get every champions to rank 7 mind you, I'm fine with the masteries I currently have), and the occasional 1.5k IP icons, IPs will barely have any use anymore.

You can buy mystery champion shards for 1.7k ip. Once you have it, you'll be able to disenchant it for blue essence if you need M6 or M7.

I've said it before but- Golden Items. Make them extremely expensive so even the people who play a lot will take a good chunk to pay it off.

That said, I've been playing for years and still don't own all the champions. Although I am getting close- I think I'm only like- 10 short? And I'll never own all of the champions because I straight-up refuse to buy Shaco.

Giving champions with IP is actually a great idea, since it would reduce the pain of inviting new friends to play the game. Also since poeple that have all champs can get new ones by spending 5100 on champions shards and combining them it only makes the problem bigger

Why can't IP buy skins for champions that you have a ton of mastery on, but for a much greater price. Maybe 20000 ip for a 1000 skin, but only for champions you put a lot of time into. This way every main should have every skin for their main champion(s), but you still gotta buy them for the rest of your champs.

Fun little visual things could be a fun IP sink. Things like, titles for out of game, such as "The Amazing (summonername)", or maybe profile customization? Or maybe even single-use tickets to create custom games with rotating game modes. More uses for IP would be great, as I'm quickly approaching all champions owned. (under 24 left for those who care)

Can i make a reccomendation?

Make a system where players turn ip into "points". Then hold an event where these "points" can be gifted to freinds to be played in a gamemode. In this gamemode it is pay to play as far as points go but the people that are in the top players based upon how well they do in this event are given some free shit like a tournament.

I totally want something else to invest in. Let us buy Emotes or loading borders or Icons etc for IP.
