wards counting towards assists?

Just thought it would be a nifty idea for wards to count towards assists. For example: if an enemy player is killed within the radius of a ward, then whoever placed that ward receives an assist. Because without the vision of that ward, in a lot of cases that kill would have never happened. A friend I mentioned it to tried to claim that because wards are free it would be stupid and that people would just place wards in teamfight spots for assists. But I don't think that would happen. Plus, if you're in range to just drop a ward to grab an assist, chances are you would be in range to actually hit the person. Thoughts?

people would abuse it for the gold bonus for the assists.

Heh, funny to think of how this would interact with execute/kill bonus if you just put a ward under your turret.

Anyways I think it's too random and I think assists are good the way they are now. It would be hard to draw the line of what really an assist is if we would implement stuff like this. What about sweeping their ward for a succesful ambush. What about simply communicating in chat the wherabouts of an opponent. I think these manners of assisting are too indirect. The kill should be enough of a reward.

Provided this was constrained to things like you wouldn't have vision of them otherwise, I'd be totally fine with it.

Maybe make it so putting wards on lanes, or not in bushes, wouldn't count.

I like the idea. Wards tend to be underappriciated, and this would give people that ward smart a nice little fist bump. I do think though that it shouldn't just be wards that see the target at the time of death. I think it should include any wards that have seen him for the past few seconds, because the ward that gets you the kill is rarely going to be showing him when he dies.

Anyone that argues that it'll be abused to give people assists probably doesn't understand what autoattacks are. The execution argument actually makes sense though. I don't think a ward should stop someone from getting executed, but for everything else it's golden.

Tell your team to place a ward in a teamfight, enjoy massive free gold for your entire team even if they did nothing.

or

"Hey X is going to kill Y. Gonna throw a ward over the wall for free gold!"

Maybe it doesn't have to necessarily give an assist then (possibly reduced assist gold since it's just a ward?). I just think think there should be some reward for those who actually focus on warding and it's an incentive for everyone to ward rather than the team yelling at the support for more wards. It's like they forget they have trinkets too. Maybe work it into the support mastery page? Though I'm not sure how that would work.

erryone buy sighstone quick D: it'll pay for itself eventually!

but im sure supports will appreciate this cuz now theres an incentive for their brainless bloodthirsty team mates to ward more
