It does not take 9 years to balance a single game with a single map.

I don't know why you people are still here hoping the game will magically stop being shit. Riot has a live design team, they get paid salaries. If they actually did their job and fixed the game then they would lose their purpose. Think of it, what medicine found a cure for cancer, they would think twice about releasing it since cancer treatment is such a lucrative business. Balance time has taken us for a good ride for 9 years, creating problems where there were none, then winning a bit of your trust back by "fixing it".

IMO the game was as closed to perfectly balanced as possible in Season 4. Since then they've been changing for the sake of change to keep their jobs. Once again it does not take 9 years to balance a game when there is a dedicated balance TEAM working 9-5 just to balance. The ruse is over, stop giving these guys your money and play literally any other game.

You're right, it's just one game and one map.

It's not like there's 143 champions, 100+ items, 55,556 combinations of runes (actual number), RNG Drakes, Baron/Herald, Towers, 10 summoner spells, 5 different roles, and a constantly evolving metagame.

C'mon Riot, get your act together. It's just one game.

So what happened? Did someone hold Riot at gunpoint and force them to add Rng dragons, overbuff baron while making it easier to kill, nerfing towers and add broken champions? Did someone threaten their families if they didn't add duskblade and spear shojin? It's all part of balance and they're still accountable for it. They thought adding dumb shit to spice up the meta for a week at the cost of ruining the game was a fair trade.

it does take that long if u have a community who will abuse any overpowered/exploitable character/item. They are also adding tons and tons of champs that upset the balance even more so they have to go back and make more champs useful, etc etc. The balancing will never stop

I can't believe people are denying your logic. It is astoundingly obvious that the balance team does not desire balance, especially seeing as their changes for these few years have been appalling. It is also clear as a day that riot is changing meta through short gapped patches to spice things up, to which they even admitted that they prefer to force meta on the community than to allow a meta to be forged by the community. This already contradicts with the notion of 'balancing' as you can't consistently change the game and expect it to be balanced.

The recent changes to champs and making them absolutely broken for a few patches and then gradually bringing them down. It is obvious that riot wants to promote youtube streamers to make a spicy video on a broken champ after every patch. The skin sales is also more visibly showing clear patterns of favours to champs with recent prestige skins and also to popularly played champs. This including the fact that most balance decisions are favoured towards flashy pro-plays. If someone can disagree with every one of these points then obviously good luck to you and i hope you get a great matchmaking in ranked games.

To those disagreeing, please take the blindfold off your eyes and for the sake of love, realize that riot is a business company first and foremost and then a gaming company. If riot's main purpose was to run league, even at the cost of making a loss , then you guys would stand to have a point. However, as we all know that this is impossible to do for any gaming company whose purpose is to make profit.

If you happened to read my comment thoroughly, this is what i advised. "Riot/balance does not desire balance" because of the short gaped patches. But, the both are not mutually exclusive i.e. riot can desire balance and still do constant patches but the fact that they force meta by admitting to the fact that they prefer a small roster of champs be meta for a period of time than all champs be equal, throws the idea of balance out of the window.

Besides, i never really touched upon the concept of "perfectly balanced" game. That might not be achievable for a game this complicated but what is important here is not the degree of balance required but the intention. There is no such intention from riot's part because they are business company first and foremost.

I for once don't know why this topic is so difficult to understand.

How can they buff or nerf without "enforcing the meta"? Literally anything they do would enforce the meta because people play what is best period, there is LITERALLY nothing that can be done by Riot that wouldn't "enforce a meta."

I don't know why people think just balancing a game is easy either, but here we are.

It's easier than being a pharmacist and a solicitor so trust me, i can imagine.

The point however has still passed over your head. Riot doesn't intend to balance the game because it goes against their policies for making profit. But that is not the focal point, the issue is that riot believes in forcing a specific meta than just let meta be forged by the community. See how they gradually buffed vayne to this state and it has been 50 days since then. I wonder how long it takes to form a link between her big ticket skin and the buffs?

As of right now, you are completely and utterly acting in ignorance to the facts. Its a clear example of a riot lackey. if the game is losing its player base as of right now, your damn biased opinion will not be of any help.

So by your statements, what Riot needs to do to not enforce a meta is to not shift things at all and let the champions who are at the top, stay at the top then correct?

sobi9991 votes

NO! The point is that there is a link between skins and other money making schemes with the balance of the game.

Riot intentionally overbuffs champs to create meta. If they let the community to form meta then they can balance the overpowered champs but the fact that they want there to be a meta at all times, negates this.

So balance is never a desired option, but perfect balance in itself is a different concept, i am only talking about the intention. Riot wants to force meta so as not to make the game stale. But that reason alone could be jusitifiable for making constant changes but when they intentionally and clearly over power a champ for other reasons i.e. skins, pro's and shorter cafe games for asian; that's when things start to become bitter and as can be seen from the balance team's recent decisions.

Yep you're right. They're trying to keep it interesting. They suck at it but its good enough it seems. I liked the last couple patches tbh. Games seem a little less lopsided now. Im more peeved about their stances on player behavior.

Makarakarn2 votes

Okay for one, perfect balance doesn't exist. I don't care how good your balance team is, any game with this much variance in character selection/customization will not be balanced, as some things will simply be stronger than others. Besides this fact, Riot has literally said that they aren't working towards a perfect state of balance. It's not their intention, and I doubt it ever has been. I think people get caught up on their favorite itteration of league and think that's how it should be, but that line of thinking doesn't work. That's not the type of game League is. League is an ever changing experience, that's one its core aspects. If you liked one version of it the best, that's great, I'm glad you had so much fun during that time to fuss about it now. The point is though, is that it's not trying to be balanced nor is it trying to become stagnant.

Kai Guy2 votes

Its not that style of balance? your not looking for global equality here, that's not why you designee a game with individual kits. In the demands for balance i want to point out that Ican have a high skill cap best case be identical to a low skill cap best case and have it be even. The low skill cap is better, same best case with increased reliability. This is impossible to balance with out making everything on the same skill cap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e31OSVZF77w

Look up this style of game designee, does that look like what riot does?

ZephyrDrake2 votes

considering that games with a fraction of the content than League and still haven't been perfectly balanced how do you want a game that like this one to be? yes I'm talking about every single fighting game out there where there is a clear tier list in each and every single one of them.

IceFrog balanced DotA 1 when it was just a WarCraft 3 custom map.... there's a reason he got hired at Valve, and a another reason why DotA 2 is so freakin tightly designed.

League will never be Balanced. There will always be that one outlier that will be considered broken, regardless of what season it is or what changes were made. Pretty sure Season 4 had it's issues as well, even if they weren't as glaring as the ones we have today.

The only reason they make changes like that is to keep the game fresh & make it so it doesn't get boring. Only problem is that these changes all come with their own set of issues. The Champion Class Updates that occured between 2015-2017 are a good example of this.

The game should never be balanced in order to live

It has to stay fresh with new items and new champions and new stuff New metas and all It's not a matter of balance

BrightWîngs1 votes

There will NEVER be perfect balance there will always be something for people to complain about and acting like that shit is just so easy is just ignorant.
